Type 1 ■ VW 1300
The VW 1300, the 4 seater corwertible and the Karmann Ghia models are now equipped with a 50 bhp 1.3 liter engine instead of the 41.5 bhp engine. This alteration complies with customers' wishes for increased output. To a great extent the additional output has been achie-ved by increasing the cubic capacity. The basie charac-teristics of the engine have been retained i. e. long ser-vice life, economical operation and reliability. The basie engine principles remain the same. The 1300 engine has a capacity of 1285 cc.
The following alterations contributed to the increased output:
a - The stroke was increased from 64 mm (2.52") to 69 mm (2.72"). The 1.3 liter engine has the same crankshaft as is fitted to the 1.5 liter engines. b - The compression ratio was increased slightly to 7.3:1. c - The larger diameter of the intake valves - now 33 mm (1.29") -corresponds to the inerease in cubic capacity.
d - The diameter of the intake manifold neck was increased to 29 mm (1.14") and that of the manifold to 28 mm (1.10").
