This is another way to increase one strtch and is often used when increasing stitches after a rib.The new stitch is madę between two existing stitches using the horizontal thread that lies between the stitches - called the running thread. This is an invisibłe increase and is harder to see when counting.
To twist the madę stitch to the left
1 Knit to the point where the increase is to be madę. Insert the tip of the left-hand needle under the running thread from front to back.
2 Knit this loop through the back to twist it By twisting it you prevent a hole appearing where the madę stitch is.
3 If you are working MI on a purl row. you purl the loop through the back.
2 Knit this loop through the front to twist it.
To twist the madę stitch to the right
1 Knit to the point where the increase is to be madę. Insert the tip of the left-hand needle under the running thread from back to front
3 If you are working MI on a purl row. you purl the loop through the front
INVISIBLE INCREASES
Being able to twist Ml to the right or left is useful when using this increase to shape a sleeve; the increases will be in pairs.
On a knit row. you knit two stitches. then work a MI twisted to the right knit to the last two strtches, then work a MI twisted to the left On a purl row, purl two stitches and work a MI twisted to the left. then purl to the last two stitches and work a MI twisted to the right
To increase two stitches simply knit into the front back and then the front again of the same stitch. When knitting bobbles (see page 42). you will sometimes make five. six or seven stitches out of one stitch in this way. For example. to make seven stitches the instructions would read (k into front and back of same st)
3 times. then k into front again.
