Waist Rib: (multiple of 2 sts)

Rnd 1: *K1, pl; rep from * to end.

Rnd 2: *Sl 1 pwise with yarn in front (wyf), pl; rep from * to end.

Rep Rnds 1 and 2 for patt.

NOTES

♦ Before blocking, puli lower edge of MC layer lengthwise and widthwise to make surę that all the dropped stitches have completely dropped and that the stitches on either side of the dropped stitches are even.

Needles Sizes 7 (4.5 mm), 5 (3.75 mm),

4 (3.5 mm), and 3 (3.25 mm): 29" circulars (cir). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions Markers (m); tapestry needle; size G/6 (4 mm) crochet hook; 1-134 yds of)4" elastic (waist measurement + 2"). Gauge 24 sts and 32 rows = 4" in St st on size 4 needles with MC; 24 sts and 28 rows = 4" in St st on size 7 needles with CC doubled; 1 rep (11 sts) = 214" at lower edge in dropped st patt on size 5 needles with MC.

SKIRT

With MC and size 5 needle, CO 242 (275, 308, 341) sts. Place marker (pm) and join in the rnd. Purl 1 rnd. Work in St st (knit every rnd) until piece measures 7" from CO. Dropping rnd: *K10, drop next st off needle and ravel down to CO edge; rep from * around—220 (250, 280, 310) sts rem on needle. Knit 2 rnds. Change to size 4 needle and knit 3 rnds. Set aside.

UNDERLAYER

With CC doubled and size 7 needle, CO 220 (250, 280, 310) sts. Pm and join in the rnd. Work in St st until piece measures 9" from CO. Place underlayer inside skirt piece (both pieces still on needles). With skirt needle and MC, *k2tog (1 st from skirt and 1 st from underlayer); rep from * around—220 (250, 280, 310) sts on size 4 needle; all sts of skirt and underlayer joined.

SKIRT BODY

Work even in St st with MC on size 4 needle until piece measures 15" from CO.

Shape hips: Place contrasting m as foli: K28 (31, 35, 39), pm, k55 (63, 70, 77), pm, k55 (62, 70, 78), pm, k55 (63, 70, 77), pm, knit to end (beg-of-rnd m still in place). Dec rnd: *Work to 2 sts before m, k2tog, work to 2 sts before next m, ssk; rep from * once morę, knit to end—4 sts dec’d. Rep Dec rnd every 3rd rnd 6 (7, 8, 9) morę times—192 (218, 244, 270) sts rem. Work 1 rnd even, removing all m except beg-of-rnd m. Casing: Change to size 3 needle and work in waist rib (see Stitch Guide) for 134", ending with Rnd 1 of patt. Turning md: Knit the purl sts and purl the knit sts. Facing: Knit and dec 20 (22, 24, 27) sts evenly spaced around—172 (196, 220, 243) sts rem. Opening for elastic: Beg work-ing back and forth in rows. Work St st in rows (knit on RS; purl on WS) until piece measures 1" from turning rnd, ending with a WS row. BO all sts kwise.

FINISHING
