under two sets of circumstances:

1.    By Chance. This is exactly what its name describes. As the players move around, a weakness, or off-balance is taken advantage of for a throw.

2.    Set-up. The set-up involves a plan of action. Instead of moving about at random, seeking the opponent's weakness, there is the intention of placing him in a weak position for a planned throw. (Return throws are usually done by chance, but can be planned by faking a weak balance, the opponent moves in to attempt a throw for which you are prepared, you then return throw).

GIVE & TAKE PRACTICE

Beginning students should start with single throws in Give & Take practice. Each partner throws, in turn. At first, there should be no resistance to the throws. Unless a throw is properly executed, the player does not go down to simulate a correct throw. If there is no resistance or assistance, and if the throw is well done, the opponent will be taken to the ground.

Give & Take allows the players to become accustomed to executing throws while in motion.

It gives them the opportunity to set-up for throws.

It gives them the experience of moving in for By-Chance throws. In Give & Take, the emphasis is all on offensive work. The players do not have to be diverted from attack by being defensive at the same time.

As the players gain experience, Give & Take with no resistance can be changed to Give & Take with
