BATTLING MAGNETO

The philosophies held by Professor X and Magneto are diametńcaliy opposed, but share some similańties.

Both men profess the goal of protecting mutantkind, but Magneto wants to subjugate or eliminate human oppositton, while Professor X dreams of a

world where humans and mutants can co-exist. After Professor X founded the X-Men, Magneto created the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Over the years, the fwo men have been fńends and foes. Recentty, the pair united to help rebuild the islartd nation of Genosha. The Scariet Witch's manipulations of reality during the House of M event seem to have temporanly de-powered both men.

To prewnt his transformation into a Brood Qucen, Xavier shifted his consciousness into a clone body with fully-functional legs. Aftcr sułFering injurics as a result of a hate crime, Xavier reunited with Lilandra to recuperate among the Shi*ar. leas ing Magneto to run the academy in his absence. Xavier again lost the use of his legs battling the Siiadow King. and brought together a fourth team of young mutants. ( Ifneration X.

Transitions

Xaviers genctic twin. the sinister Cassandra Nova. had died in Sharon Xavier s woinb yet somehow maintained hor hte-essence. Nova rc-entered Xaviers lite with spectacular malevolence. orchestra ting the dcvastation of the mutant nation of Genosha, and taking niemal contro! ofXavier. In Xaviers gnise. she outed him as a mutant to the world, and incited the Shi'ar Imperial Guard to attack the X-Mansion. Xavier*s students helped free him from Nowi % influence, and Xavier regaincd the use of his legs through the actions of academy student Xorn (actually a Magneto impostor in disguise.) Xavier later founded the X-Corporation, stepping down as head of the academy. He lost the use of his legs when the Magneto impostor rcvcaled himself. and leli for Genosha to help the real Magneto relniild that islands shattered soeiety.

An artifni.il lifeform calling itself Danger tracked down Xavier on Genosha. intent on killing him. L)uring the battle. it became elear that Danger was the self-awarc consciousness of the X-Mansion s Danger Room training center, a fact that Xavier had known but suppressed in order to continuc exploiting Danger in order to hone his students* coinbat skills.

Xavier later helped Magneto s daughter. the Scauift Win h to recover fiom a niemal brcakdown. although hc was unable to prevent ller altering a*ality to “cure” morę than 98 per cent of the world s mutants. PS
