1312 SWA81 682 (2072) 9 fig 160 Corroded and broken; d 31mm; brass frame and pin (AML); the frame is plain on one side of the pin, on the other it has cable decoration; series of arc-like engraved lines (possibly keying for enamel, though no tracę survives).
1313 SH74 17 (234) 9 fig 160
d 30mm; gunmetal (AML); engraved false lettering; the pin has a transverse ridge.
1314 SWA81 2141 (2050) 9 fig 161 & colour pl 6A
d 37mm; gunmetal frame and pin (AML) with inlaid lead strips (MLC); the frame is decorated with obliąue bands, altematively the metal of the frame and an inlaid strip, the former having paired lines of opposed, punched triangles; on one face the direction of the bands is reversed in each of eight approximately equal sectors of the frame, these changes being slightly offset from the constriction for the pin; on the other face the bands all run in one direction; the pin has a 161 Re versible annular brooch:
top - front and back as wom (1:1) bottom - back as wom (2:1)
collar; the frame and pin are wom at the points of contact.
The offsetting of the pin relative to the decoration implies that the frame was completed before the pin was added. This notably elegant brooch could be wom with either face to the front - the only difference in appearance apart from the decoration being the very insignificant one of a flatter or a rounder section; the intention was clearly that there should be a choice, sińce the collar goes right round the shaft of the pin (this is a rare instance among the brooches or buckles of such a pin, decoration on almost all other surviving pins being restricted to one side, though cf brooch no. 1318, which has lost all but a tracę of the pin).
1315 TL74 2150 (2455) 9 fig 162
d 28mm; gunmetal frame (AML); the frame has two plain sectors (one with a constriction for the pin) and two with cable decoration; the pin has a transverse ridge.
1316 BWB83 398 (264) 9 fig 162
d 18mm; somewhat corroded; bronze frame (AML); sinuous engraved zigzags on front; irregular, engraved arc-lines on back.
