Nappy Sanitizing

Between washes, some people choose to storę dirty nappies in a bucket, and soak the nappies in a sanitizing solution. Commercial nappy soak powders are available. howeven for a gentler green approach you can use either tea tree oil or lavender oil to sanitize nappies.

Tea tree oil is a powerful, natural antiseptic with fungicidal properties. To soak nappies add 5 drops of tea tree oil to a bucket of water.

Lavender oil also has antiseptic properties: Use 5 drops in 2/3 of a bucket of water. Replace the solution every day for best results. Besides cleansing the nappies. the fresh smell of tea tree oil. and the fragrant scent of lavender oil will help deodorize the nappy bucket. If you do soak nappies in a sanitizing solution be aware that you do not need to wash your nappies at a very high temperaturę. The sanitizing solution will have already been at work killing off germs, so you could wash cooler at 40°C.

Please notę that both tea tree oil and lavender oil are active essential oils and sometimes babies may be sensitive to them. Therefore. use cautiously at first. and never apply the oils directly to skin. Buckets of water are a potential drowning hazard for mobile babies and toddlers, so be vigilant about keeping them out of their reach.

Reduce laundry harnper odours

If you keep a laundry harnper. add some baking soda every day to keep the harnper from smelling between loads.

For sweet-smelling closets

Mix together equal parts of dried cloves, rosemary and thyme. place in smali cloth pouches or tea bags, then hang in closets or fold in with out-of-season clothing. Dried lemon peels will also do the trick.

For smoki/ clotlws

To eliminate smells run a hot tub of water and pour in one or two cups of vinegar. Hang the smelly clothes on hangers along your shower curtain rod. This will remove smoke and other tough smells.
