Therapy for the interossei dorsales. (Stretching of interosseus dorsalis I
shown)
Starting position: P: Supine or sitting; elbow flexed approximately 90° and supported against the couch; wrist in neutral position; MCP joint slightly flexed and DIP and PIP joints in fuli flexion. T: Standing facing P’s right side.
Grip: T grips P’s index finger with right hand, thumb on dorsal side, and holds the DIP and PIP joints fully flexed. Ts left hand stabilizes P’s wrist and hand at the dorsal side.
Procedurę: Using this grip, T gradually and fully extends and adducts (in the ulnar direction) at the MCP joint of P's index finger.
Stimulation of Antagonists: T retains grip. T then asks P to move further in the direction of stretching, and resists that movement to stimulate P’s antagonists.
Notes: T should apply slight traction to assure good glide at the MCP joint. If dorsal glide at the MCP joint is painful and/or restricted, T should apply slight traction while assuring dorsal glide.
Same grip and procedurę for other three fingers, with following exceptions:
Additional grip procedurę
Middle finger abducted m ulnar direction Middle finger adducted in radial direction Ring finger adducted in radial direction
