Therapy for the extensors, abductors and lateral rotators. Hipflexed 60°. (Mainly stretching the piriformis).
StartingPosition: P: Supine; pehisstabilized with a belt; left hip and knee extended; right hip and knee positioned in approximately 60° flexion; right foot steadied against the couch on the lateral side of left leg. T: Standing at P’s right side, facing P's head.
Grip: T’s right hand grips ventral-lateral side of P's knee. T’s left hand and forearm support and control P's pelvis.
Procedurę: Using this grip. Tgradually and fully adducts at P’s hip.
Stimulation of Antagonists: T retainsgrip. T then asks P to move further in the direction of stretching, and resists that movement to stimulate P’s antagonists.
Notę: P's left thigh may limit movement of the right leg. So to attain maximal stretching of the piriformis, it may be necessary to flex P’s left knee and flex and abduct the left hip before to further adducting the right hip.
