Image Number 93 - Parathyroid, adenoma, oxyphil cells
The oxyphil cells are the lighter staining cells. Some of these are indicated by arrow 1. Arrow 2 indicates the darker staining chief cells. Arrow 3 indicates a blood vessel. However, at this magnification, a pathological change cannot be discerned. The oxyphil cells are the predominant cell type in this type of adenoma. The oxyphil cells are often called oncocytes. This is a rare tumor.
