Helpful Hints

Joining Thread

Always join thread at the end of a row. Crochet up to, but not including, the last step of the stitch; two loops will remain on the hook (a). With new thread, complete the stitch by drawing a loop of new thread through the two loops on the hook (b). To change colors, use next color for step b.

Securing Thread End

To secure the thread end, cut the thread 6 inches (15 cm) beyond the last stitch (a). Draw thread end through the loop (b). and puli up tight (c). Finish thread ends by weaving them into the stitches.

Finishing Thread Ends

After the project is completed, weave all thread ends into a seam (if there is one). Using a large, blunt-pointed needle and avoiding open or lacy areas, weave the thread into the wrong side of the work for about 1 1/2 inches (4 cm), Slightly stretch the area where the weaving was done. Weave the thread end 3/4 inch (2 cm) back on itself. Trim end close to work. For two thread ends dose together, weave in opposite directions. Make surę ends do not show on right side of project.

Blocking

Place completed work on a large, well-padded, fiat surface. Stretch to measure-ments specified in directions. Use rust-proof pins to hołd in place. Fold extra-large pieces (such as bedspreads) in half with right sides together and stretch to one half the specified measurements. Dampen acrylics with a mister or cover with damp cloth. DO NOT PRESS. Steam cotton or wool lightly through damp doth. Leave pinned in position until thoroughly dry. Repeat above directions if necessary. Ribbing is never blocked. For a smoother finish, motifs or each piece of a garment can be blocked before sewing together.
