the tighrest part of the curve movemcnt is suggested. The reverse can show pressure (Fig 14.10). Tension can be implied by taking a straight bar and making it thin in the middle (Fig 14.11).

Hardness and Softness

Observing how matcrials behavc and dcvcloping their natural tendencies can produce powerful rcsults. If two arms are pressed together the flesh squeezes out where they touch. These curvatures suggest pressure, and you could make a sculpture which develops this effect (Fig 14.12). As roundcd forms look soft, perhaps floppy, the contrast provided by hard, angular forms can redeem a potential blob by suggesting strength or movement and at the same timc emphasize the point about squeezed objeets.
