Interactivity

9.6.1
Forums

User-to-user interactivity comprises all
forms of communication between users on the Internet. With increasing
bandwidth available to users, websites are able to offer more
sophisticated interactive features or elements.Potentially the most
powerful feature of web publishing is its ability to create
communities. As with any publication, users are brought to a website
by a common interest. The World Wide Web has long included bulletin
boards, called newsgroups or forums, in which users can post messages
in a public place where other users can read them and respond.
Many software packages are now available for adding forum services
to your web page. They may use standard NNTP software for creating the
forums, but they do some back-end processing that outputs the pages as
HTML. These tools also let web publishers customize the layout of the
resulting pages.
