Deleting a Table

If you no longcr nccd a table, then you can delete it using SQL Developer. When you delete a table, the database deletes the data and dependent objects of the table (such as indexes), and rcmoves the table from the data dictionary.

When you delete a table from a locally managed tablespace that is not the SYSTEM tablcspacc. the database docs not immcdiatcly rcclaim the spacc associated with the table. Instcad, it placcs the table and any dependent objects in the recycle bin. You can then rcstorc the table. its data, and its dependent objects from the recycle bin if necessary. You can vicw the contcnts of the recycle bin by clicking Recycle Bin on the

Tablcs page. Notę that users can sec only tablcs that they own in the recycle bin. Sec Oracle Database Administrator's Guide for morę information about the recycle bin. including how to view, purge, and recover tables for which you are not the owner.

To delete a table:

1.    Navigatc to the PURCHASE_ORDERS table in the HR schema, following the instructions in "Viewing Tables" on page 8-10.

2.    Right-click the PURCHAS E_ORDERS table and selcct Table and then Drop.

The Drop dialog box appears.

3.    Select Cascade Constraints and Purge.

4.    Click Apply.
