The human as a whole is the center around which Javier Marin's artwork revolves; he shows Iiving human beings, paIpitating, with bodies that present themselves with dignity, proud yet hurt and decomposed. Not fragile, but strengthened individuals. On their skin and flesh they carry the marks and scars of their own existence: a continuous confrontation of apparent opposites, a de- and reconstruction of fragments. His choices of materials as well as his working process, which leaves evident marks on each piece, are substantial elements of the way he conceptualizes his work.

Ron Mueck draws upon memories, reveries, and everyday experience as he portrays his subjects with extraordinary compassion. What makes his sculptures exceptional is the manner in which he balances realism with the unreal. Frequently spending morę than a year conceiving and making each figurę, Mueck captures every feature with astonishing detail. The naturalism of his work, however, is undercut by his calculated play with scalę: Some figures fili a gallery, whereas others stand no morę than three feet high.
