METHODS OFIMPROVINGWATER CLEANLINESS RATES IN POKRZYWNICA (SZALE) STORAGE RESERVOIR

The storage resenoir of II imporlance class, total capacity of 4.35 M m3 and the area of 154.0 ha was built on the Pokrzywnica river near Kalisz, a right tributary of the Prosną river and cominissioned in 1978. Due to a high loading of the reservoir water with nitrogen and phosphorous (critical loading per Vollenweider criteria was exceeded for nitrogen 25 times and for phosphorous 14 times in 2006), actions have to be laken to reduce fertility of the water.
The most important actions aimed to improve the surface water cleanliness in the resenoir include: develop mles of the resenoir use, control the water and sewage management in the resenoir basin, continue reclamation of landfills and waste dumps. remove debris. reclaim the resenoir by means of phosphorous inactivation, adjust water courses etc.
