J. P. Bakker who engaged himself in the formation of this Subcom-mission.
Lectures on the principles of geomorphological mapping were presen-ted by N. Baszenina, R. Galon, J. Gellert, M. Klimaszewski, P. Macar, P. Michel, F. Tada and J. Tricart at the meetings of the Commission on Applied Geomorphology (7 and 13 August) and of the Geomorphological Section (9 and 12 August) held during this Congress. The following program prepared by Professor M. Klimaszewski (President of the Sub-commission on Geomorphological Mapping) was presented and accepted at the meeting of the Commission on 13 August, 1960:
1. To introduce the method of the geomorphological survey (which resulted in the ‘detailed geomorphological map’) into geomorphology; it will permit the relief to be recognised in detail from a qualitative and a quantitative point of view;
2. To work out the uniform conception and the uniform principles of construction of the ‘detailed geomorphological map’ which will assure its comparison;
3. To supply the national economy with geomorphological maps as a detailed picture of the relief being an important element of the geographical environment, and to enable the rational use of this environ-ment. The geomorphological map may be and it ought to be used in economic planning just as well as the geological-, the hydrographical-, the hydrogeological-, the climatic- and topographical maps.
The Subcommission on Geomorphological Mapping is represented by members of the Commission on Applied Geomorphology: J. Tricart (President of the Commission), H. Th. Verstappen, J. P. Bakker, F. Hjul-strom, N. Nielsen, M. Klimaszewski (President of the Subcommission). The following members of the Subcommission were elected: H. Anna-heim, (Basel), L. Berry (Khartoum),»B. Bulla (Budapest), Jf Demek (Brno), J. Dresch (Paris), R. Galon (Toruń), *J. Gellert (Potsdam),«J. P. Gerasimow (Moscow), Z.*Gołobow (Sofia), F. Gullentops (Leuven), M. Lukniś *(Brati-slava), P. Macar (Liege), P. Michel (Dakar), T.*Morariu (Cluj), H. Mor-tensen (Gottingen), R. Savigear (Sheffield) and F. Tada (Tokyo). The Subcommission approved the proposal that the first meeting of the Subcommission on Geomorphological Mapping will be held in Poland because of the progress madę towards geomorphological mapping.
This conference in Poland was madę possible by funds granted by the Institute of Geography of the Polish Academy of Sciences (expenses of transportation in Poland, accomodation and partly provision for the stay during the Conference) and by a subvention (expenses of transportation to and from Poland) by Professor J. Tricart from the International Geographical Union (Boesch).
Its purpose will be:
A. To review the ‘detailed geomorphological maps’ on the scales of 1 : 5,000 — 1 : 50,000;
B. To discuss and to establish both the conception and the principles of construction of the detailed geomorphological map in order to assure the comparison of maps realized by many authors in yarious countries, especially
a) to establish the scalę and the scope of content of the detailed geomorphological map,
b) to establish the conception of the uniform key to the detailed geomorphological map or the principles of the key’s construction,
