In reply to your Notę of to-day’s datę, I have the honour to inform you that the Government of Denmark agree that the Commercial Agreement between the Govern-ment of Denmark and the Govemment of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, which was signed on the 24th of April last, should be read subject to the follow-ing interpretations of certain words and expres-sions used therein ;

(1)    The expression “ foreign. country ” in relation to the United Kingdom means a country not being a part of the British Commonwealth of Nations nor a territory under British protection or suzerainty, nor a mandated territory in respect of which the mandate is exercised by the.Govern-ment of a part of the British Commonwealth of Nations, and the expression “ foreign imports " means imports from foreign countries as so defined :

(2)    Any reference to regulatiori of imports into the United Kingdom relates to regulation of the ąuantity of imports only :

(3)    The expression " from Denmark " in relation to agricultural products means “ produced or manufactured in Denmark", and the expressions " United Kingdom goods " and “ Danish goods ” in Article 7 mean goods produced or manufactured in the United Kingdom or Denmark as the case may be ;

(4)    Any reference to imports of fish into the United Kingdom from Denmark includes a reference to fish landed in the United Kingdom direct from sea by Danish vessels.

Monsieur le Ministre,

En reponse a votre notę en datę de ce jour, j’ai Thonneur de porter a votre connaissance que le Gouvernement du Danemark est d'accord pour que la Convention commerciale entre le Gouvernement du Danemark et le Gouverne-ment du Royaume-Uni de Grande-Bretagne et dTrlande du Nord, qui a etć signee le 24 avril dernier, soit interpretee de la maniere suivante en ce qui concerne certains mots et expressions qui y sont employes :

i° L’expression «pays etranger» s'entend, pour le Royaume-Uni, de tout pays qui ne fait pas partie du Commonwealth bri-tannique, ou qui n’est ni un territoire place sous la protection ou la souverainete britan-nique, ni un territoire sous mandat, pour lequel le mandat est exerce par le Gouver-nement d’un pays faisant partie du Commonwealth de nations britanniques ; l’ex-pression «importations de Tetranger» s'en-tend des importations de pays etrangers au sens qui vient d'etre defini.

2⁰ Toute reference ,a la reglementation des importations dans le Royaume-Uni se rapporte uniquement a la reglementation des quantites importees.

3⁰ L’expression « du Danemark », en ce qui concerne les produits agricoles, signifie uproduit ou fabrique en Danemark)), et Tex-pression « marchandises du Royaume-Uni » et (t marchandises danoises » a 1’article 7 s'entend de marchandises produites ou fabriquees dans le Royaume-Uni ou en Danemark, selon le cas.

4⁰ Toute reference aux importations de poissons dans le Royaume-Uni en prove-nance du Danemark s’entend notamment du poisson provenant directement de la mer et debarque dans le Royaume-Uni par des bateaux danois.
