GRAM
SUBJECT: TORQUE CONVERTER (LPG AND GAS ONLY)
A new serviceable torque converter is available. The new converter offers the following advantages:
1. The new converter is a serviceable unit. It may be disassembled to check for wear and only the
worn or failed parts need to be replaced.
2. The turbine spline area is increased to give significantly longer life to the splines on the single
speed transmission.
3. The stator spline area is increased to give significantly longer life to the splines on the two speed
transmission.
4. The new torque converter provides better cooling characteristics reducing transmission operating
temperatures.
Units with the sealed converter may be altered with a 236344 conversion kit. In addition to the kit a
new engine crankshaft seal and oil pan gasket should be ordered. The flywheel is eliminated in the
change. On units with timing marks on the flywheel a crankshaft pulley and timing indicator are
required. The old crankshaft pulley may also be marked according to Figure 3. On the S30-50C and
S60-100B the flywheel housing must be altered to Figure 2 specifications.
