Founded by the Danish king Sweyn Forkbeard around 990,
Lund is one of Sweden’s oldest cities. Today, you can still
see clear traces of the town’s layout in its Danish period,
not least because the inner city streets largely follow the
medieval pattern.
Lund blends old and new, tradition and innovation. It is a city
of contrasts whose medieval heart coexists with modern
buildings and internationally famous companies.
Lund is a real student city, strongly influenced by its
university. Founded in 1666, the university has evolved over
the centuries into one of the leading seats of learning and
scientific research centres in the Nordic region.
Everything is close at hand here in Lund, which makes it the
perfect city for discovering on foot or by bicycle. You are sure
to find your favourites among all the exciting experiences
and attractions available here.

Domkyrkan anD Domkyrkoforum
Lunds Domkyrka (Lund Cathedral) was built in the
Romanesque style in the Middle Ages, the high

1440s in the cathedral, while you will find Jätten
Finn – Finn the Giant – in the crypt. Domkyrko-
forum (Cathedral Forum), built immediately south
of the cathedral in a contemporary design idiom,
enhances a visit to the cathedral.
