The most important quality of Hoooked Zpagetti is the varying thickness and texture of the thread. That’s why it is important to keep
looking at the dimensions and the shape of the crocheted bag for each pattern. The number of stitches per row is therefore not a
fixed number, but should be determined depending on the desired dimensions of the end result.
Step 1: the base of the bag
You start by making a slip knot. Then make a number of chain stitches. This will be the base of your bag. The number of chain stitches
required for the base of the bag will be approximately 22 to make a bag base of approx. 36 cm, depending on your crochet tension.
Then you will make the first double crochet as shown in the image above. Continue like this in every stitch until you return to the first
chain stitch. In this first chain stitch, make 3 double crochet in the same stitch, allowing you to continue on the other side of the chain
stitch. Proceed until you have gone all the way around. This is shown in the diagram below.

You only need a limited number of basic stitches for this pattern: slip, chain and double crochet stitches. For this rather large bag,
you need about 900 grams (just over a roll) of Zpagetti and a pair of round handbag handles. We used a 12 mm crochet needle.
Please read all the instructions carefully before starting to crochet the design.
Step 3: handles and finishing touches
Continue the next row and attach the handles by “by crocheting over the handles as you work along the row”. Another option is to
attach the handles “by stitching them into the row”. In any case: make sure that the handles are attached right in the middle, and that
the proportion between bag size and cross section of your handle is correct. After the handles have been attached, you can crochet
from one end of the bag handle to another for two to three more rows (back and forth) with double crochet. Repeat this on the other
side. This gives the bag its final shape, matching the shape of the handles.
Tip: Instead of working in double crochet, you can also use treble. In addition, when the bag is finished, you can weave a different
colour of Zpagetti through your crochet work, attach coloured beads or decorations to accessorise your bag further.
Step 2: the shape of your bag
When the base is complete, use the same stitch (double crochet) to go around a second
time. When using double crochet, you can choose to pick up the inner thread or to pick up
both threads of the stitch. If you pick up 1 thread, a horizontal line will appear in the crochet
work; if you pick up both threads it won’t.
After the third row, increase the number of stitches by making an extra double crochet through the same chain stitch after every 4 to 5
stitches. This gives the bag its flared shape. You can increase more or less, depending on your personal taste. When the bag has
reached the desired height crochet another row without increasing.
