Tape Specification KT Method Confirmation Testing
Prone, abduct the shoulder to 90 degrees
and externally rotate the shoulder so the
thumb is pointed to the ceiling. Lift the arm off
the table in horizontal extension (thumb
toward the ceiling).
Examiner pressure: Stabilize the opposite
scapular area to prevent trunk rotation and
apply downward pressure to the distal
forearm. Observe the scapula during testing
to be sure lateral (upward) scapular rotation
is maintained as pressure is applied.
Note: The position of the patient’s arm in
rotation is an important detail in this test in
order to differentiate between middle
trapezius, rhomboids, and posterior deltoid.
