PA 625

background image

Based on Alcap-type separators, the PA 625 purifier system
shares the same user-friendliness and several other features
of the Alcap S-separation system.

Application
The PA purifier system is specifically designed for purification
or clarification of mineral oils found in the marine and power
industries.

• Heavy fuel oils with densities up to 991 kg/m

3

and

viscosity up to 600 cSt/50°C.

• Lubricating oils.

• Distillate and light diesel oils (MDO).

The PA purifier system is suitable for shipbuilders and
ship operators in newbuilding applications; power plant
builders and operators; diesel engine builders and in retrofit
applications to replace or supplement existing cleaning
systems.

Concept
Each PA 625 separation system consists of:
1. P 625 separator plus ancillaries.
2. EPC50 control unit.
3. Water block.
4. Optional starter.

An oil feed pump and oil heating system are supplementary
equipment to the basic concept.

Features and benefits
Small footprint.

Small separator gives flexibility in
positioning in the engine room.

Simple installation.

The system has very few com-
ponents. No need for water
discharge pipe.

CentriLock.

The non-threaded CentriLock lock
ring allows the bowl to be opened
quickly without a sledgehammer.
There is no wear of costly bowl
parts.

CentriShoot.

The CentriShoot discharge system
greatly reduces sludge volumes.
It utilizes a fixed, flexing discharge
slide that eliminates metal-to-metal
wear.

High separation efficiency.

An optimized design ensures the best
possible separation efficiency in the
bowl disc stack.

Remote monitoring and control.

Several options are available.
Network solutions using MODBUS or
PROFIBUS and the operator’s own
software allow remote operation from
a control room.

No water tank.

No tank is needed to supply operating
water, which saves materials and
installation costs.

Longer service intervals.

Planned maintenance is performed
less often and spare parts consump-
tion is reduced. This creates lower
operating costs.

Developed from the SA/SU systems.

Similar systems gives benefits for the
operation and maintenance.

Heater control.

Available as option built in to the
EPC50 control unit.

Separate feed pump.

Reduces pipe work to and from the
preheater.

Operating principle
The PA purifier system is operated by
the EPC50 control unit. The separator
bowl can be arranged as a purifier or
as a clarifier.

A purifier separates sludge and water
from the oil. Water is continuously
discharged from the bowl. The sludge
accumulated in the sludge space in
both a purifier and a clarifier is inter-
mittently discharged.

In a clarifier, the water outlet is blocked,
i.e. the water handling capability is limited.
Water is accumulated like sludge.

In the purifier mode, the EPC50 unit
automatically controls the water admitted
to the separator for the water seal and
displacement of oil prior to sludge
discharge.

The separator is driven by an electric
motor via a friction clutch and belt. The
separator bowl is fixed at the top

of a spindle, which is supported by
bearings and springs.

During normal operation vital process
parameters are monitored. The EPC50
unit provides alarm functions for low oil
pressure and power failure. Alarm
functions are also provided for errors
involving the EPC50 unit. Special text
messages indicate process parameters
and alarms on the LED display. The
EPC50 is type approved by many
classification societies.

In addition, functions are available for
vibration alarm when the optional
vibration sensor is fitted.

When operating in the purifier mode,
a gravity disc must be fitted to obtain
the correct interface position in the
separator bowl, i.e. the boundary
between the oil and the water seal.

The size of gravity disc must be
matched to the oil density, viscosity/

temperature, and oil feed rate to the
separator. In the clarifier mode, a clarifier
disc is fitted instead of gravity disc.

Installation
The PA purifier system is designed for
automatic operation in periodically
unmanned engine rooms at sea and
automated power stations ashore.

The basic concept is single stage opera-
tion: adequate cleaning is achieved with
one system. Each system is designed
to operate independently.

Optional equipment
• Starter.
• Heater board in EPC50 for control

of heater.

• Feed pump.
• Remote operation kit.
• Sludge outlet butterfly valve kit.
• Heater.
• Vibration sensor kit.

CentriShoot’s fixed, flexing discharge slide does away
with metal-to-metal wear – a well known problem of
other separators.

Unlike conventional lock rings, CentriLock snaps in and lifts
out without a sledgehammer, eliminating bowl replacement
due to worn-out threads.

STEP THREE

: After

discharge, the slide
moves gently back
into position, closing
the ports. Closing is
done hydraulically,
without any springs.

STEP TWO

: During

sludge discharge,
the edge of the slide
flexes downward,
exposing the ports.

STEP ONE

:

CentriShoot’s dis-
charge slide is fixed
at the centre. During
separation it covers
the discharge ports.

CentriShoot

CentriLock can
be removed with
only an Allen key.
No sledgehammer
is necessary.

CentriLock lifts out
and snaps in easily
– without any threads
to wear.

Threaded lock rings must be removed with
a sledgehammer. Over time, metal-to-metal
wear between bowl and lock ring lead to
expensive bowl repair or replacement.

Operations
Preventive maintenance procedures are
quick and simple with the help of a com-
pression tool. The patented CentriLock
lock ring is removed using only an Allen
key, instead of the conventional lock
ring spanner and sledgehammer.
