You've been waiting through countless release date changes,
previews, and teasers for TNA Impact. You've read every Greg
Miller preview six times. You've thrown your copies of Smackdown
vs. Raw '08 into a fire. (Not that we encourage that.) You opened
the box on release day, threw the disc into your game system of
choice, and played for eighteen hours straight.

And you still can't beat Jeff Jarrett.

Don't get that fire going again. You can beat Impact's toughest boss,
and our TNA Impact guide will tell you how. With a detailed
walkthrough of how to handle everyone from Jarrett to LAX to Kurt
Angle, we'll give you all the assistance you need in taking "Suicide"
from the mean streets of Tijuana to TNA gold.

We've also gone through each wrestler in the game and mapped out each of his moves, creating the first detailed move
list available for each wrestler in the game.

TNA Impact Basics

TNA Impact Walkthrough

After watching the Suicide intro, you'll be prompted to create your character, defining his wrestling style, body type, and
skin tone. Get used to them—you won't be able to change them after you confirm your decisions.

From there, you can modify your look, gear, and moves. Most options for moves will be inaccessible at the beginning,
but hey, that's what the story mode is for. Once you're done and save, you'll come to the game's story hub. As the story
goes along, you'll be informed each time you unlock a new move.

Continuing with the story, your first match will be a gauntlet match in Mexico. Fortunately, your health is restored after
each match, so instead of being a gauntlet, it's actually just a series of singles matches.

Your first set of opponents is three fellow newcomers: El Grosso, Night Wolf, and Fernandez. None of the three should
give you much trouble. Use these matches to practice your counters, which are integral to being successful in TNA
Impact. To counter, hit the right button at the exact time. A RB graphic will pop up underneath your name when it's time
to counter. Winning the gauntlet unlocks Mexico as an arena.

Next, you'll head to the armory, where you'll face one of the Supah Clowns, Benny. Benny looks bigger than the guys
you just faced, but he's about as skilled. Benny will require a little more damage to defeat, but he also taunts every
chance he gets, leaving him wide open for attacks. Benny will also go for a chair during the match; when he gets it, just
wait for him to come into the ring, kick him, knock him down, and then use the chair to your advantage.

After beating Benny, you'll get a "Foot In The Door" match against James Storm; pin Storm, and you get into TNA.
Storm's faster than your previous opponents, and he'll cause a little more damage—focus on using counters and if you
get him on the ground, use submissions to wear down his limbs. Once you've beaten Storm, you'll get ten achievement

Basics

The most important skill you'll need to master when it comes to TNA Impact is the reversal mechanism. Reversals
are executed by hitting the right button. You'll want to hit the button as your opponent is beginning his move, or in
the middle of a throw or suplex.

Your on-screen HUD is the iMPACT! logo, which serves as both a meter and a timer. The meter fills up more and
more each time you're attacked; when it's full, you'll need to shake the analog sticks to get your wrestler to heal.
While that's going on, you'll be stunned and subject to wanton violence from your opponents without any way to
stop it.

The timer mechanism serves as an indicator of how close you are to hitting your finisher. When the meter fills and
catches fire, you'll be able to activate your finisher. Do so by using a strong grapple (using LB + Y) and then hitting
B to execute your finisher. Every wrestler's finisher is executed in this manner. You can also pick up a fallen
opponent by using LB + Y at his head.

Your health is displayed by a silhouette that starts out green; as the match goes along, your silhouette will see parts
go from green (healthiest) to yellow (healthy), orange (injured), and red (severely injured). If your head, legs, or
arms are red, you'll be able to be submitted if your opponent applies a submission to one of those areas; likewise,
when your opponent's limb is red, he can be tapped out.

Submission Meter

Speaking of, one of the new mechanics native to TNA Impact is the submission meter, which serves as a sort of
mini-game to keep your opponent in a submission or get out of one yourself. When you're in a hold, you'll need to
press the buttons that pop up on the screen in order.

To win with a submission, after locking a severely injured part of your opponent's body in a hold, you'll need to enter
in the combination three times before your opponent does so once.

points for your efforts, and you'll unlock the Armory in the process.

A speech from Kevin Nash leads to
your first TNA match: Another
gauntlet match with other TNA
hopefuls. You'll start with Daniel
Puder look-a-like The Red Devil and
the stocky Ramzul, but after getting
past both of them, you'll face your
next TNA star: Jay Lethal. Lethal's
surprisingly not much better than the
first two opponents; just stay out of
the way of his momentum attacks,
where he strings together ten or
twelve moves in a row, by writhing
away from him on the ground when
you're unable to get up. Beating
Lethal earns you ten more
achievement points as "King of the
Gauntlet", and unlocks Lethal as a
playable character.

Another Nash interaction leads to
your first televised match, a contest
against Robert Roode. Roode's
excellent at countering, so when you
get him down, attack his arms
repeatedly with holds (Y + LB at his
body) and eventually try and finish
him off with the cross arm breaker (B
+ LB at his body). Beat Roode and
you get 15 more achievement points
for joining the TNA roster.

A mysterious masked man attacks
you after the match in a cut scene. A
call from Kevin Nash is little comfort,
but his arrangement of giving you Eric
Young as a tag team partner helps
slightly.

Your first tag match with Young is up
against your mysterious attacker,
"Beardy McGee", and his partner
Burnsyde. You'll control both yourself
and Super Eric, so feel free to tag in
one or the other when you get tired
without having to worry about the
computer blowing it for you. The
easiest way to win a tag match is just
on pure damage; after a while, the
computer won't bother to send in the
guy on the apron to break up pinfalls
or submissions, so make your goal to
get one guy as injured as possible.
After winning a match with Young on
your team, he'll be unlocked for play.

Up next are another set of jobbers,
Guinzu and King Tat. After beating
them, you get a real tag team: Team
3D. They're the strongest wrestlers
you've faced so far, so avoid taking
too much damage—the levels of
damage you could get away with previously don't fly against these TNA stars. When you get Brother Ray down, keep
him down with submissions and holds—you won't get a ton of style points, but it'll get the job done. Winning unlocks
Brother Ray.

A Christy Hemme interview gone awkward leads to another match against two more generic wrestlers, "The Bulgarian"
and "Evin Mountain", and then a second against "Curlz" and "The Jackal" (no, not Don Callis). As with other tag

The real deal...

Finally! Your next match is against some authentic TNA talent: A.J. Styles
and the now-departed Tomko. They're a huge step up on your previous
competition, countering moves about three times as frequently and
causing much more damage with their attacks. It can be impossibly
frustrating when one suddenly counters a move, hits his finisher, and pins
you without your partner making the save, so make sure you tag
frequently. The best way to actually inflict damage on Styles and Tomko is
to make sure that you avoid their chair attacks; when they leave the ring to
get a chair, as they waltz back to the six-sided ring, attack them with a
running attack before they can get up and prepare to hit you. Then, use the
now-fallen chair to inflict damage. Winning the match unlocks Tomko as a
playable character.

The fireworks after the match are interrupted by LAX, who take you out in
their inimitable fashion. Before you get your revenge on them, you fly to
Japan and take on the best that Japan have to offer: "Nightrain" and old
friend Ramzul. Compared to Styles and Tomko, they're cake. You'll follow
that up with a match against the Motor City Machine Guns, Chris Sabin
and Alex Shelley. You might recognize Sabin's finisher. Beating the
Machine Guns is a lot like handling Styles and Tomko—wait for them to
use chairs, knock them down, and take advantage of the opportunities to
wear down a limb and eventually submit them. After beating the Machine
Guns, the Japanese arena will be unlocked.

After being confronted by LAX, you'll get challenged to a match for LAX's
tag titles. LAX doesn't have the technical skills of your previous TNA
challengers, so you won't be countered as frequently. On the other hand,
Homicide and Hernandez's attacks result in heavy amounts of damage, so
try and stay out of their range and avoid, in particular, Homicide's
devastating Gringo Killer finisher. More so than other opponents, using
submissions and holds to keep LAX grounded is an optimal strategy.
Beating LAX earns you 20 achievement points.

After winning the belts, Styles and Chris Daniels come down to the ring
and take you out; Kevin Nash makes the save, but Eric Young gets taken
out in the process, costing you an opportunity to defend the tag belts.

You'll go back to single matches against El Grosso and Burnsyde before
facing "The Guru", Sonjay Dutt. Dutt isn't particularly hard to beat (consider
using a weapon, since his technique is superior to most wrestlers), but
beating him still earns you 20 achievement points and unlocks him for
usage. Your victory earns you a sermon from Chris Daniels and a trip back
to Japan for more matches.

You face more jobbers there, with followup matches against The Bulgarian
and The Red Devil, as well as the debut of Savage B. Sadly, you never
encounter Savage A. After winning the third match, you're jumped by
Styles, who slaps you in a threatening manner, leading to an impromptu
encounter with A.J. After beating A.J. and Tomko before, A.J. should be a
piece of cake—even if you get hit with a Styles Clash, just mash your
sticks long enough to kick out and go back to offense.

After your introduction to Samoa Joe, you'll take on another jobber in
"Fernandez"; this time, though, it'll be in your first Ultimate X match, where
the goal is to grab the X on the steel cables in the middle of the ring. To
jump onto the cables, hop up to the top turnbuckle and hit B + LB. From
there, move towards the cables with the analog sticks, use B to hook
yourself, and then hit A to unhook the "X" in a series of accuracy
challenges. If your opponent's up on the cables, use A or X (the button, not
the X on the ropes) to attack him, or Y to grab him and pull him down.

matches, your strategy here is simple—focus on one body part of one opponent and work it over with holds and
submissions until they have no choice but to tap out. Remember, though—an opponent won't tap out until his relevant
body part on the HUD is red.

The easiest way to win in Ultimate X is counterintuitive—let your opponent get on the cables. When he gets towards the
X, hop onto the cables and kick him down. That usually gives you a few seconds to try and get the X. If Fernandez is
coming towards you, hit B to unhook yourself, turn yourself towards him by using the left analog stick, and kick at him
until he falls back down. Repeat ad nauseum. A hint: Don't bother trying to use your finisher. Since the Cradle Shock's
normally a pinning move, after you hit it, your opponent will automatically kick out and just pop right up, relatively
unharmed. The good news is that your opponent has the same finisher, so you'll get the same benefit.

Your next match is another Ultimate X match. Geez, are they not paying you enough. You'll face The Jackal, who still
isn't Don Callis. Use the same strategy to take him out.

You'll have a third Ultimate X match after that, taking on Savage B. Beat him to earn 30 more achievement points and
unlock the Freedom Center, another arena.

After sneaking into the locker room and discovering Jeff Jarrett, you'll be up against Samoa Joe and Chris Daniels in a
three-way Ultimate X match. As Joe and Daniels prepare to take you out, Joe attacks Daniels from behind, giving you
the chance to grab the Ultimate X title. Fortunately, the game handles all that for you in a cut scene.

After a conversation with Jarrett revealing his master plot, you're up to the heavyweight ranks, which means no more
jobber characters. Unless you seriously love El Grosso, you won't be disappointed, but your first bout is against the War
Machine, Rhino. Rhino's strikes are deadly, often knocking you down with a single kick. So stay out of range and try
using running strikes as your primary weapon of attack.

One angry Homicide phone call later, you're facing Booker T in a singles match. Booker T's Bookend finisher is the
strongest you'll see up to this point in the game, and he counters seemingly everything—even the old reliable running
strikes get countered. The way to beat Booker is to stay on top of him with strikes on the ground and as he gets up—as
soon as the game recognizes strikes as Booker stands up, hit him with two strikes from in close and go for a grapple.
Also, be prepared to counter frequently; even when Booker counters your moves, you can often counter back if you time
it right.

Your next match is against a legend
of the industry—Sting. Sting wrestles
a lot like Booker T, so use the same
style to take him out. After Sting
comes Abyss. Abyss is nowhere near
the technician that Sting or Booker T
are, so use a more technical style to
defeat the 6'8" monster. Unlike other
moves, you'll really struggle to kick
out of the Black Hole Slam, so avoid it
at all costs; roll out of the ring and run
if you have to. Winning the match
unlocks Abyss.

After a cutscene, your next match pits
you against "The Instant Classic",
Christian Cage. Cage is actually a
pretty weak performer relative to guys
like Booker T or Rhino, so he
shouldn't be too much trouble. A
Jarrett phone call suggests that you
should enjoy your next match;
shockingly, it's against your former
benefactor, Kevin Nash.

Even more shockingly, unlike the real
thing, Kevin Nash can move! Nash
can run and jump like a cruiserweight,
so it's a real struggle to beat him.
Your best bet is to hit and run; take
Nash out, then run outside and grab a
chair. Wait for him to follow you out,

Ultimate X...

Jarrett's call...

Another Jarrett phone call reveals that you're on your way to Vegas, where
you get some disturbing photos of Eric Young before you get your World
Heavyweight Title shot against Kurt Angle. Angle's a machine—his strikes
do significant damage, although surprisingly, his counters aren't as good
as Joe's. The best way to beat him is to get him down once or twice and
work over his arm with stomps and knees; once his arm gets red, throw on
the cross arm breaker and work the button combination magic to tap him
out and claim the gold. Your victory gets you 75 achievement points and
the Vegas arena.

After a celebration and a cutscene with Jarrett where he promises to break
your back and make you humble, it's time for the final encounter: You vs.
Jarrett, with the title on the line.

Jarrett's one of the hardest final bosses you'll come across in a wrestling
game story mode. He's faster than anyone in the game, and his attacks do
far more damage. He can put you in an uncontrollable state after three
strikes, and you won't be kicking out of The Stroke, his finisher. He also
counters anything you do on the ground with a ballshot, so keep your
attacks on the ground to a minimum. Unlike previous matches, there's no
chairs on the floor to help you out, so you can't even use them to elude
Jarrett's attacks.

To beat Jarrett, you'll need to employ a variety of high-percentage attacks.
Use your running strikes—Jarrett won't block most of them. Try and get in
one attack when Jarrett's on the ground, since doing more than one will
result in a guaranteed ballshot. When Jarrett gets you in moves, use your
experience to time your counters perfectly. If he hits you with a move, roll
away as quickly as you can, since Jarrett is excellent at following up

whack him with the chair a few times,
then put him in an arm submission to
wear down his arm. Repeat four
times, and you should be able to tap
Nash out. Beating him earns you 40
achievement points and unlocks
Nash.

Of course, after you fight Nash,
you've gotta go up against Joe. After
a pep talk from Jarrett, you're up
against Samoa Joe, the Samoan
Submission Machine. Beating Joe is
incredibly difficult; it takes a lot of
trickery. You'll want to pull out all the
stops—head outside and attack him
with chairs, hit him as he gets up, run
away from when he's ready to hit his
furniture…it's not the most manly way
to go about things, but it'll get the job done. Beware, though—Joe can—and will—counter anything. Use strikes more
than grapples to get through this match. Winning it earns 55 achievement points.

moves with strike after strike on the ground. If you're trapped, roll out of the
ring, and as Jarrett rolls out, roll right back in. It'll give you an extra second
to gain the advantage.

Jarrett's biggest weakness is his hubris; if you hit him with a strong strike,
he'll taunt you, so a good combination to start with early on in the match is
weak strike ? weak strike ? strong strike ? weak grapple. Hit him with
strong strikes like the flying elbow drop (LB + X) on the ground to get him
in a weaker state.

The other tip we can proffer is to stay on the outside. Jarrett can't pin you
there; in addition, if you run by the ring steps, you can usually convince
Jarrett to run past them and trip, giving you a few seconds to lay in strikes.
When Jarrett is ready to do his finisher, he'll try and throw you back into
the ring, but if you're close to the ring steps, you'll trip on them and never
make it into the ring; by the time Jarrett tries again, he won't be able to do
his finisher anymore.

When you finally beat Jarrett, he's unlocked for usage on the wrestler select screen, along with Suicide. Enjoy your
final cut scene and a short documentary on the game.
