Shawl
«First flowers»
This shawl knitted according to classic Orenburg charts.
The work starts at the bottom left corner with the teeth ribbon. Then the stitches for the shawl are picked
up along the edge of the ribbon, and after that both left teeth ribbon and the body are knitted bottom up.
At
the end of each odd row make 1 decrease. After body shawl complete knit teeth ribbon on the left side and
join last st of tooth to the edge of body shawl. At the end the remain stitches of left and bottom teeth
ribbons are grafted at the lower left corner of the shawl.
Size:
Length
55,1”, height 30,7” ( size depends on your yarn, needles and gauge )
Materials:
Yarn with got down, alpaca, kid mohair or any other that you prefer ( approximately yardage 550-768
yards/100g ), you need 120-170g; needles 2,5-3,5 mm; waste yarn for provisional cast on; marker,
tapestry needle.
Shown shawl was knitted with yarn
«Orenshawl» 700m/100g, used 108 g, needles 2,5 mm.
Gauge:
21 sts and 44 rows - 4
х 4” after blocking.
Notes:
Knit odd and even rows. Knit yarnovers in even rows.
Slip 1

st in each row purlwise, yarn in front of work; knit last st of the row knitwise except decreases for
body shawl
– knit decrease as k2tog.
Orange is used to highlight the logical end of the shawl part or to mark a middle of the shawl.
Rows 1,3,5,7,… read from right to left. Rows 2,4,6,8,… read from left to right.
Directions:
Bottom teeth ribbon
With waste yarn and provisional cast on, CO 10 sts, knit rows 0-18 of tooth pattern for 1
st
tooth. Then
repeat rows 3-18 of pattern for next 22 teeth. Knit rows 3-17 for 24

tooth. Stop after row 17 of 24
th
teeth
complete ( right side ), do not cut yarn.
Orange sts in the teeth pattern
– edge sts.
Bode shawl
Now we have to turn corner to 90 degrees as below. With left needle pick up 193 sts ( insert tip of needle
into front loop of edge st ) from CO side across to 24
th
tooth. Place marker for separating teeth and body
shawl, now edge st of tooth is knit st ( = orange vertical row in pattern ). Ktbl all picked up sts to last 2
sts. K2tog last 2 sts. ( 192 sts, = orange horizontal row in pattern ) Turn work and knit wrong row, finish
row 18 of tooth.

Then knit body shawl together with vertical teeth ribbon on the right. At the end of each right row make 1
decrease ( k2tog 2 last sts ). Do not knit teeth at the end of right row! At the beginning of wrong row slip

Body pattern 1
– knit highlighted in red repeat 6 times across the row and 1 time in height.
Body pattern 2
– knit highlighted in red repeat as below:
Rows 83 -114 - knit 5 times across the row and 1 time in height;
Rows 115 - 146 - knit 4 times across the row and 1 time in height;
Rows 147 - 178 - knit 3 times across the row and 1 time in height;
Rows 179 - 210 - knit 2 times across the row and 1 time in height;
Rows 211 - 242 - knit 1 time across the row and 1 time in height;
Схема 3 – knit 1 time.
After body pattern complete we have only tooth sts on the needle, do not cut yarn.
Teeth ribbon
Now we have to knit teeth ribbon along edge of body shawl with decreases. For teeth follow the pattern,
do not forget join last st of tooth to edge of body shawl as folow: knit the right row of tooth to last st; with
left needle pick up 1 edge st of body shawl into front loop, slip last st of tooth to left needle, k2tog these 2
sts, turn; in the wrong row slip 1

st purlwise, yarn in front, knit to the end of row. Knit as establishes
while all teeth will be joined to all edge sts of body shawl ( =24 teeth ).
Finishing
Slip sts of 1st tooth to other needle, drop provisional cast on. Graft sts of two teeth with Kitchener stitch.
Weave in ends, wash in warm water with soft washing. Block with T-pins on the even surface or block on
the wooden frame. Leave for 1 day for the best blocking.
