This necklace was conceived as
a piece that can be individualized
by each person who makes it.
Judy has used baroque, faceted
stones because she was taken
by the chunky-bead trend at
recent bead shows. To soften
and balance the big beads, she’s
added four to five strands of
smaller beads in various colors.

Step 1:
Cut 3 yd of thread. Fold the thread in half and tie a
lark’s head knot onto one half of the clasp by passing the
loop of the folded thread through the loop of the clasp,
then passing both ends of the thread through the thread
loop.
Step 2:
Use a needle on one thread to string 1" of accent beads
in a random pattern. String 1 large rose quartz bead.
Repeat eight times until you’ve added all the large rose
quartz beads. String 1" of accent beads. Pass through the
other half of the clasp and tie a knot. Note: Don’t pull
the beads too snug—you will want some space for the
next passes of beads, and the necklace will drape better
if it is slightly loose rather than too tight.
Step 3:
String 1" of accent beads and pass back through the
last rose quartz strung. Repeat this step until you’ve
passed back through all the rose quartz beads. String 1"
of accent beads, pass through the other half of the clasp,
lightly snug the beads, and tie a knot. Pass back through
as many beads as possible, tying knots between beads,
then trim close to the beads.
Step 4:
Use a needle on the remaining thread to string 1" of
accent beads between the rose quartz beads. Repeat three
times so the necklace has a total of 5 strands of accent
beads between the rose quartz beads. Pass back through
as many beads as possible, tying knots between beads,
then trim close to the beads.
