King Arthur lived 1600 years ago in Ancient Britain. His
friend, Merlin, was a wizard. Merlin showed Arthur the lake
where he found his magic sword. When the King was very
old, he went to the lake again put his sword back in the
water.

In the year 449 the Anglo-Saxons invaded Britain. King
Arthur decided to fight against them. He was a Romano-
Briton and did not want to give his land to the Anglo-Saxons.
The legends about King Arthur says that he fought in 12
battles. The most important one was the Battle of Mons
Badonicus when Arthur himself killed 950 men.

He married a lady called Guinevere. They were married in
a big church in the town of Camelot. After the wedding they
went to King Arthur’s castle. Their wedding present from
Merlin was a big round table.

There were two chairs for the King and Queen and fifty chairs
for fifty brave knights. The knights promised always to be
kind, tell the truth and help other people. There are many
stories about the knights’ adventures and they tell how the
knights tried to keep their promise.
