1 Firmware History

2 Download Firmware
1) Left click on the DOWNLOAD icon for the CN-GP50 PND firmware.

2) Left click on SAVE.
The file name displayed should be
GP50.zip.
3) Left click on DESKTOP, and then left click on SAVE.
NOTE: The GP50.zip file will be placed on the DESKTOP.

3 Format SD Card
CAUTION: Ensure the SD Card does not contain files that should not be deleted.
Use one of the below methods to format the SD Card prior to copying/extracting the
firmware update to the SD Card.
3.1 Using SD Formatter Software.
NOTE: The SD Formatter software may be downloaded and installed from the
below link. This software is only compatible with Windows 2000 and XP operating
systems. If a version of SD Formatter has previously been downloaded and
installed, it is not necessary to download and install this software again. The
FORMAT option in the Windows Operating System can also be used as explained in
section 3.2 Using Windows Operating System FORMAT Option.

1) Insert an SD Card into the SD Card Slot built-in to the computer or into a USB
Reader/Writer attached to the computer.
NOTE: If the below screen appears, left click on CANCEL.
2) Click on START, mouse over ALL PROGRAMS, mouse over PANASONIC, mouse over
SDFORMATTER x.x, and then left click on SDFORMATTER x.x.
x.x represents the
version of the
SDFormatter software.
CAUTION: Formatting irretrievably deletes all the data on the SD Card, including
any protected content. Check the SD Card carefully to verify there are not any
files which should not be deleted before proceeding with formatting the SD Card.

3) Select the drive designated as the SD Card Drive from the drop down list, and then left
click on FORMAT.
CAUTIONS:
" Do NOT remove the SD Card from the SD Card Slot or USB Reader/Writer
during the formatting process.
" Do NOT disconnect the USB Reader/Writer from the computer during the
formatting process.
4) Left click on OK.
NOTE: During the formatting process, the below screen will be displayed.
5) Left click on OK.

6) Left click on EXIT.
3.2 Using Windows® Operating System FORMAT Option
1) Insert an SD Card into the SD Card Slot built-in to the computer or an SD Card
Reader/Writer attached to the computer.
NOTE: If the below screen appears, left click on CANCEL.
2) Double-click on the MY COMPUTER icon on the DESKTOP.
3) Right click on the SD Card drive, and then left click on FORMAT.

4) Select FAT from the FILE SYSTEM drop-down list, and then left click on START.
CAUTION: Formatting irretrievably deletes all the data on the SD Card, including
any protected content. Check the SD Card carefully to verify there are not any
files which should not be deleted before proceeding with formatting the SD Card.
5) After verifying there aren t any files which shouldn t be deleted, left click OK.
6) When the below screen appears, left click OK.
7) When the below screen appears, left click CLOSE.

4 Extract Firmware to SD Card
1) Right click on the GP50.zip icon on the DESKTOP and then left click on EXTRACT ALL.
2) Left click on NEXT.
3) Left click on BROWSE.

4) Left click on SECURE DIGITAL STORAGE DEVICE (the SD Card Reader/Writer drive)
and then left click OK.
5) Verify the root directory of the SD Card Reader/Writer is selected under FILES WILL BE
EXTRACTED TO THIS DIRECTORY and then left click NEXT.
NOTE: The below screen will be displayed for several minutes while the firmware
files are being extracted to the SD Card.

6) When the files have been unzipped to the SD Card, the below message will be displayed.
Verify the SHOW SELECTED FILES check box is CHECKED, and then left click on
FINISH.
NOTE: When the window opens showing the contents of the SD Card, the below
files and folders should be present.
7) Remove the SD Card from the SD Card Reader/Writer.

5 Install Firmware
CAUTIONS:
" Do not turn the Portable Navigation Device (PND) OFF or press any buttons on
the PND while the firmware update is in progress, except as indicated in these
instructions.
" Do not remove the SD Card from the SD Card Slot during the firmware update
process.
" It is not necessary to perform a firmware update unless the PND is displaying
the symptoms for which the firmware update was designed to improve.
1) Power the Portable Navigation Device OFF.
2) Remove the SD Card with the maps from the SD Card slot on the side of the Portable
Navigation Device.
NOTE: Press in slightly on the SD Card so the catch will release before attempting
to remove the SD Card.
3) Insert the SD Card with the firmware update into the SD Card slot until it clicks.
4) Turn the Portable Navigation Device power ON. Firmware installation will begin
automatically.
NOTE: Firmware installation will take approximately 3 minutes to complete.
5) When the firmware installation is complete, a prompt will appear on the screen to select
a language. Select the desired language and then touch [OK].
6) When the Portable Navigation Device finishes powering ON and the MENU screen is
displayed, power OFF the Portable Navigation Device.
7) Remove the SD Card with the firmware update from the SD Card slot.
8) Insert the SD Card with the maps into the SD Card slot.
The Portable Navigation Device is now ready for use.
