responsible for setting up a training room facility for the Symantec AntiVirus
courseware. This guide describes the requirements for the network
equipment and computer stations that are installed and configured by the
facilities personnel for the training courses.
Related documentation
The implementation guides included with the Symantec AntiVirus CDs
contain information that may be of value to facilities personnel in
understanding the setup tasks performed by the instructor and the overall
training objectives.

For
Instructor s computer
The instructor s computer must:
" Be installed with Windows 2000 Professional with SP1 or later
" Be running Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS)
" Be running IP protocol. IPX is required if using NetWare servers
" Contain all Symantec AntiVirus source files resident on the hard drive in
c:\installs\cd1
" Contain all source files for its own OS in c:\installs\i386
" Contain all Service Packs for all OSes in c:\installs\SPacks
" Contain a share at c:\installs, named Installs
" Have PowerPoint installed
" Have Internet Explorer 5.5 (only) with Service Pack 2 installed
" Have an Overhead Projector connected
" Have a CD-ROM as part of its hardware
" Set Windows Explorer to show all files and file types and extensions.
The use of Ghost images is recommended to reduce setup time if computer
failure occurs. If using Ghost, the Instructor s computer should have an 8 GB
hard drive that consists of a 4 GB FAT partition for NT and at least one other
partition on which to store images of the computers.
If training with NetWare, all computers should also be running:
" Client 32 version 4.7+
" NWAdmin
" RConsole
" NetWare administrator user ID = administrator, no password

For
Classroom configuration
The configuration of this classroom is modular. Computers can be added or
removed by either row or column, depending on the needs of the particular
class.
The following is a sample room setup that provides optimal support. This
setup allows for ease of access to "troublespots" by the instructor, and allows
students to break into functional small and larger teams.
NOTE: It is important that the instructor computer be at the front of the room, and
that it have active keyboard access to the overhead projector.

For
Network topology
Network topology
The training room must be physically isolated from any production network.
All computers are connected as one isolated network and domain. The
common protocol is IP. IPX is a required protocol if NetWare is being used or
taught.
All computers should have static IP addresses. This reduces potential
problems within the class time and during classroom setup.
NICs can be 10Mbit or 100Mbit (100Mbit is recommended).
Cables must be bundled and tied out of pathways and work areas, and of
sufficient length as not to be under stress.
For IP assignments, see the diagram on the preceding page.

For
Instructor LiveUpdate setup
Because the classrooms are isolated networks without Internet access, the
instructor must provide a LiveUpdate server in the classroom. The following
steps are a guide to creating that LiveUpdate server.
NOTE: The instructor CD contains virus definitions files that are newer than the
files shipped with Symantec Client Security. Using the virus definitions on the
instructor CD will allow LiveUpdate to function, showing newer virus definitions
after the LiveUpdate process completes. The newer virus definitions files are located
at the root of the instructor CD in a folder named LUDefs.
Step 1: Copy the contents of the \LUDefs to C:\INETPUB\WWWROOT.
Copy the contents of \LUDefs from the Instructor CD to
C:\INETPUB\WWWROOT of the designated LiveUpdate server (the
instructor s computer).
Step 2: On the students computers, modify the C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file.
At each student computer, add the following line to
C:\WINNT\System32\drivers\etc\hosts:
192.168.0.200 liveupdate.symantec.com
Save and close the file.
NOTE: Alternatively, create a text file with the line indicated above, save it as Hosts,
and copy it to all the student computers into the designated location of
C:\WINNT\System32\drivers.
Step 3: Test the setup from a student computer.
1. Install Norton AntiVirus for Servers.
2. Click Start > Programs > Symantec AntiVirus Server.
3. From within the program, click LiveUpdate. The LiveUpdate connection
should succeed to the instructor s computer.

For
Instructor LiveUpdate setup
Step 4: Copy lab files to wwwroot sub-directory on the LiveUpdate server
1. Access the \Vol3LabFiles directory on the Instructor CD.
2. Copy the four folders contained in Vol3LabFiles to the
C:\INETPUB\WWWROOT folder on the LiveUpdate server.
3. Verify that the following four folders are correctly created on the
LiveUpdate server:
" c:\inetpub\wwwroot\browser
" c:\inetpub\wwwroot\cookie
" c:\inetpub\wwwroot\browser\java
" c:\inetpub\wwwroot\webform

For
Instructor acceptance
Before the training class is scheduled to begin, the instructor will visit the
training facility to inspect and accept the setup. The technical contact for the
facility must be available to answer questions and correct any setup issues.
Both the instructor and the facility technical contact will ensure completion
of the following checklists before the training setup is deemed acceptable.
Checklists
Open Network Neighborhood. Verify that all classroom computers are visible in Network
Neighborhood.
If using Ghost, verify that all images have been created and are stored on the Instructor s computer
and are visible.
Verify that instructions for re-imaging are available as a text file on the Instructor s computer, or as a
text paper document.
Verify that the service packs are on the computer in x:\installs\SPacks.
Verify that the Symantec AntiVirus source files are on the computer in c:\installs\.
Verify that the OS source files are on the computer in x:\installs\i386.
Verify Internet Explorer 5.5 is installed with Service Pack 2
Verify Microsoft PowerPoint is installed.
Verify that the computer can image through the overhead projector.
Verify OS and SP level by opening Start > Run and entering Winmsd.
Verify that LiveUpdate files and lab files are installed on the instructor computer in \inetpub\wwwroot
Verify logon ID and password on all computers.
Open Network Neighborhood and navigate to the Instructor s computer. Navigate to the Installs
Share, and attempt to copy over a Symantec AntiVirus Setup.exe file. This will stress the network
connection and verify it works under load.
Verify each computer has 2 GB or more free disk space.
Verify Windows Explorer is set to show all files and file types.
