Description
This document will tell you how to upgrade system software, including bootloader (NBoot), Operation system
upgrade tool (Eboot), and operation system software (OS) and the user interface application(UI).
Upgrade below system software use USB:
NBOOT
EBOOT
Upgrade below by SD card:
OS
Logo
User interface (UI)
Eboot (Note1)
Before you update any software, please confirm what you are doing, because you have to know it has a big risk
to do it.
Note1: Update Eboot via SD need Eboot version upper 3.18.
Install USB Drivers
You must install USB drivers before you upgrade system software NBOOT.
Steps:
Power off your device
Plug in Mini USB to USB slot, plug other USB connector to your PC or notebook,
Press the MENU button (or power button, some model/version needs) and then power on the device at
the same time, your PC or Notebook could show a  Found New Device dialog, Microsoft software
 Windows such as  windows XP will help you to install a device s driver.
When you select the Device driver files or director, please select our driver folder, such as
 ATLASMGR you downloaded from our website.
If your system is windows XP or later, you should confirm the driver to  always continue when XP need
authorization confirmed.
After you installed the USB driver, you can see below item Centrality Atlas Chip USB Utilities in your
device manager list:

You can get USB driver and the upgrade tools from our website, you needs a account to download it access it.

Upgrade system Use USB
Nboot
Description
NBOOT is the first code after you power on the device, so it is a biggest risk to upgrade NBOOT. When you
need to change system clock frequency, example you should change your system clock from 300MHz to
372MHz, you could do it. It is recommended to refer related documents.
If you have no tools or documents, you can download the tools and documents to upgrade the NBOOT, please
connect with us to get username and password
Update Nboot via USB
You must confirm your device could boot when you use USB to update Nboot.
Note: You must update Nboot via JTAG when your device could not boot up. Please refer to NBoot and
JTAG for detail.
Steps:
1. Power off your device
2. Plug in Mini USB to USB slot, plug other USB connector to your PC or notebook,
3. Run the Upgrade tools named such as: AtlasMgr5.exe, and set the option to below show:

4. Press the POWER button and then power on the device at the same time.
5. Select  Transport to  USB and then press OPEN button some times, this button will be  Close after
USB connected. And system NBOOT information could be showed at the main screen.
6. Update button  Upgrade NBOOT to select NBOOT file to upgrade NBOOT.
7. After Upgrade, a  success will be showed at the right edit.
8. And then, restart the device.
9. And after step 9 restart, you could upgrade EBOOT now.
Update Nboot via USB JTAG
1. Make confirm the interface of JTAG connector to JTAG board.
2. As same as  Upgrade NBOOT via USB steps 1~4.
3. Select  Transport to  JTAG and then press OPEN button some times, this button will be  Close after
USB connected. And system NBOOT information could be showed at the main screen.
4. Update button  Upgrade NBOOT to select NBOOT file to upgrade NBOOT, a progress bar window will
be show.
5. After Upgrade, a  success will be showed at the right edit.
6. And then, restart the device.
7. And after step 9 restart, you could upgrade EBOOT now.
Note1: You must know the JTAG information to do this section. Please connect with us for more information
about  Update Nboot via USB JTAG .

Upgrade Eboot
Via USB to update Eboot
1. Do same as  Upgrade NBOOT steps 1~5.
2. Update button  Upgrade EBOOT to select EBOOT file to upgrade EBOOT.
3. After Upgrade, a  success will be showed at the right edit.
4. And the reset or reboot the device.
Via SD to update Eboot
1. Power off the device
2. Copy the Eboot image file (ebupdate.bin) to SD root.
3. Insert SD card to SD to SD slot.
4. Power on the device, system will auto detect the ebupdate.bin image file if it s on the root of SD card, if it
exists, device enter update mode and update will auto start. Please confirm the result message on the
screen.
Note1: Please do not update Nboot or Eboot if it s not necessary; because you have big risk of destroy the
device.
Note2: Some Eboot version needs to erase flash after you update the Eboot, but the later will not erase, it s
recommended to erase flash because that OS update maybe update failure.
Note3: After you update Eboot, device maybe the blue LED is light always but could not enter the system. The
Nboot maybe was destroyed. You have to update Nboot again via USB JTAG interface.(early eboot version may
do it.)
Note4: Please check your correct EBOOT version for your device firstly. Please connect us or refer to related file
for more information.
Low format the Flash
1. Copy the format flag file lowforma.enb to root of SD card
2. Insert the SD card to SD slot, and then power on the device,
3. System will auto detect the file lowforma.enb, if it exists, device enter update mode and will auto start to
format. Please confirm the result message on the screen.
Note: this format will erase all information exclude the NBOOT and Eboot and UUID information. Other information
will all be erased include file system.

Format the flash file system
1. Copy the format flag file coformat.enb to root of SD card
2. Insert the SD card to SD slot, and then power on the device,
3. System will auto detect the file coformat.enb, if it exists, device enter update mode and will auto start to
format. Please confirm the result message on the screen.
Note: This format will erase all information exclude the NBOOT and Eboot and UUID information on earlier verion,
but the later security information will not be erased any time. Other information will all be erased include file system.,
and then OS system will create a file system.
Upgrade logo
Steps:
1. Prepare a logo.bmp file and put it to SD root directory. If your device is 3.5 LCD, the logo.bmp should
be 320*240*24bit color BMP file. If your device is a 4.3 LCD, the logo.bmp should be 480*272*24 bit
color BMP file. Other format file will make a  BAD BMP format File failure.
2. Power off the device.
3. Insert SD card to SD slot.
4. Press MENU button and power on the device at the same time. A upgrade screen will show after
EBOOT detected a valid upgrade file.( some hardware version needs this step)
5. Please confirm the upgrade screen if success or failure. If failure, you could correct it and do it again.
Note: Some OS can support update logo via UI application. User can replace logo freely in picture viewer.
Upgrade OS
You only can update Eboot via USB when your Nboot version is before 5.13, after Nboot version 5.13, device
support update OS via SD card. So, you must confirm the Nboot version before you update the OS.
Update OS via USB
1. As same as  Upgrade NBOOT steps 1~5.
2. Hold VOLUME DOWN, Input  1 into input edit, and at the same time.
3. Press ENTER to confirm, system will show below:

4. Input  Blank key and press Enter to continue, some system information will show the right edit.
5. Input  u or  U and press ENTER to continue, and then  Upgrade NK image will be enable.
6. Press  upgrade NK image to select a  chain.lst to download the OS, and then a progress bar wil be
showing.
7. After Upgrade success, system will auto run.
Update OS via SD card
1. Copy the OS image files to root of SD card, normally the OS image files include: chain.bin,
DRIVERS.bin, NK.bin and TINYNK.bin, and the list file osupdate.lst.
2. Insert the SD card to SD slot, and then power on the device,
3. System will auto detect the file osupdate.lst, if it exists, device enter update mode and update will auto
start. Please confirm the result message on the screen.
Note1: it s recommended to clean the flash after you update the Nboot or Eboot. Clean the flash will format the
flash and reset the file system.
Note2: If you do a Lowforma.enb or coformat.enb, you can update OS directly, when the OS read to the
SDRAM, system will create the file system by default.
FAQ
Q: I get  failure many times.
A: If you see a  failure in the right edit during upgrade OS progress, you can restart and upgrade again, if you
received failure after more times, you can try to put the lowforma.enb or coformat.enb to format the flash and
update again.(But please download all files include OS and UI interface).

Upgrade User Interface (UI) Use SD Card
You could upgrade UI and explorer files by SD card. All things you need to do is put the files to SD card directory
shell_upgrade, you could get this folder from our website or our email.
Please do not do this step unless you DO NEED to upgrade the UI.
Steps:
1. make sure the folder shell_upgrade at SD ROOT directory like below:
2. Make sure the file named  version under folder  shell_upgrade .
3. Remove the SDCARD from device and then power on the GPS, until system enter the main screen.
4. Insert SD card to SD slot, system will auto upgrade, and the screen will show upgrade process window.
5. After upgrade finished, device may have a restart. But normally it could not, it s depends on the setting in
Version file
Note1: Please connect with us if you upgrade failure and could not boot.
Note2: Please change or delete the shell_upgrade folder when you need to navigate or play media file, otherwise,
system will auto upgrade again and again.

FAQ:
Nboot
Q: Can not connect to USB
A: Confirmed USB driver installed first, and then confirm followed the steps operation; last, check your hard
version and Nboot version, some hardware and model need to press MENU button when power on, but other
models need to press Power ON button to enter USB connection mode, and the 3.5 model need press Menu
and the Volume UP key to enter USB connection mode. For more information please connect with us.
Q: System can not boot up after Nboot upgrade.
A: You have to update NBOOT via USB JTAG to reset the software again. Please connect with our sales.
EBOOT
Q: Can not update logo file
A: Check logo bmp file format and the file name firstly. It s recommended to format the flash if you failed some
times.
Q: Can not update EBOOT files
A: Check image files and the ebupdate.bin file on the root of SD card and confirm the OS file version for your
hardware firstly. It s recommended to format the flash if you failed some times.
Q: Can not find any upgrade flag
A: Check your files are on the root of SD card. Check the SD card hardware version, normally, SD cards are
SD1.1 standard card, but after year 2008, the SD2.0 and SDHC SD cards are popular, but the technology is
old, so some SD2.0 or SDHC cards are not be initialed correctly. Please told me your detail and change a SD
card and try again.
Device support up to 4GB standard speed SD card of SD 1.1 and the standard SD2.0 cards, it maybe not
support many new SD2.0 and SDHC cards.
OS
Q: Can not update OS files
A: Check image files and the osupdate.lst file on the root of SD card and confirm the OS file version for your

hardware firstly. It s recommended to format the flash if you failed some times.
Q: Update OS failure
A: Check image files are all on the root of SD card. And check the system has a high battery level; any low
battery level will make the error occur when system reading files.
Q: Write Flash failure
A: It s recommended to low (lowforma.enb) or high (coformat.enb) format the flash if you failed some times.
And check the system has a high battery level; any low battery level will make the error occur when system
reading files.
NBOOT & JTAG
You must update NBoot via JTAG when your device could not boot up.
When your device s NBOOT was broken, you must update nboot from JTAG.
Firstly, you should get a JTAG board, normally, it support TMS

You can get a normal JTAG board hardware and documents from internet.
Secondly, check the Pin connected correctly.
The following is our hardware design and you should check it with your JTAG board.
J5 is the connector on our device
Note: After you connect the cable, please short the following pin when you power on. System will enter CPU
JTAG mode.
Short this pin when you want to JTAG

Q: Do not start to update after insert SD card
A: Check Shell_upgrade folder on the root of SD card; Check the version number of the version file and
make it s below the system current number (you can see this value via evergrowtesttools.exe); check the SD
card can be read; ;Please tell me detail information if you failure again.
