Emergency Steering Procedures for Port & Stbd L-Drives
Two modes of emergency control
Speed and steering controls at EOS panel (left side).
Speed control on the SCR panels and steering control at the Steerprop local panel.
Deck department.
Sound the General alarm and announce on the PA that lose of steering control.
Activate the `EOT' function on the Beier alarm monitor.
This will automatically switch the screen in EOS display to `EOT' display.
Activate the `EOT' at the fwd bridge console will turn `On' the same display on the aft display of the EOS.
Activate the `EOT' at the aft bridge console will turn `On' the same display on the fwd display of the EOS.
Give the Emergency telegraph orders to the EOS by touching the `EOT' display. Angle by the touching the require angle, and speed by the selecting the `Dead slow',' Half', `Full speed' & etc.
In the EOS, if the engineer only switch either of the Port & stbd L-drive from `Bridge' to `EOS' control, the bridge drop-in panel `EOS' indication will blink. In the EOS, if both Port & Stbd L-drive are switch from `Bridge' to `EOS' control, the bridge drop-in panel `EOS' indication will be permanent lighted.
Engine department.
Mode no.1 of emergency control.
With the EOS display automatically switch to `EOT' display, select the control mode from `Bridge' to `EOS' control.
Acknowledge the engine orders from the bridge by touching the `Red' color display (angle & speed).
Turn the respective request L-Drive steering and speed control knob according to the Bridge orders.
Monitor the `EOT' display if the speed and steering of the L-Drive respond accordingly.
Mode no.2 of emergency control.
One engineer standby in the EOS for Speed control, and two engineers with the sound powered phone headset standby in the steering room for steering control.
In the EOS, engineer will switch the `Emer control' switch to `on'. Acknowledge the `EOT' display and vary the speed control knob according to the bridge orders.
In the steering room, engineer will switch the port & stbd steering control from `Remote' to `Local' control mode. With the orders either from bridge or EOS via the sound powered phone, turn the steering accordingly.
