The company cares for the natural environment and is now actively engaged in efforts to set high standards of responsibility and accountability in this regard. In France, EDF generates 82% of its electricity in nuclear power plants, 14% in hydropower plants and only 4% in conventional plants. Both the EDF's contribution to the use of renewable energy sources and its accomplishments in the sphere of environmental protection make it a world leader among promoters of sustainable development.
Now I'll present the principles of sustainable development. “Responding to current needs, sustainable development must not undermine the chances of future generations to satisfy their needs” - this sentence provides an apt summary of the essence and meaning of sustainable development. The notion embraces economic and social development together with concern for the environment responds to the developmental needs of each region.
