Analytical Chemist
Our client is a leader in Waste Management in the UK. They are involved in transporting and disposing wastes from the residential, commercial and industrial sectors. They have a busy Analytical Service that is key to the company's operations. A Chemist is urgently needed to work in the Organic Analysis department.
The successful candidate will ideally have experience of traditional and instrumental Chromatography methods, in particular Gas Chromatography and the Mass Spectrometry technique. This would be an ideal opportunity to gain more experience in these common analytical techniques, and training will be available for a more recent graduate with less practical work experience.
Duties will include: calibration and basic maintenance of laboratory test equipment in accordance with documented procedures and manufacturers instructions; analysis of samples using documented laboratory test methods and procedures to the accuracy and precision limits defined by the Senior Chemist; evaluation and verification of results followed by the recording of raw data and results using the laboratory information management system in accordance with the requirements of the Quality System. You will also be required to assist more senior staff with respect to method development/validation and other laboratory tasks following any specific instructions.
The ideal candidate will be a graduate Chemist with a minimum of one year's practical and relevant work experience.

Analytical Chemist
Urgent requirement for an enthusiastic to use a range of techniques including GC-MS, LC-MS and HPLC. Working within a friendly team you will develop a strong marketable skill set. You must have at least 12 months GC-MS experience; exposure to the additional techniques is beneficial although not essential.
Assistant Surface Water Quality Scientist
An Assistant Surface Water Quality Scientist is required by my client for their London office.
You will ideally have a MSc / PhD in a relevant science based subject and up to 2 years experience. Training will be provided and candidates with no experience will also be considered.
You need to have a good appreciation of water quality and resource issues.
Experience in water quality and/or quantity modelling would be desirable including standard hydrological tools and analytical methods.

Organic Chemistry Analyst
Our client have a vacancy within the Organic Chemistry Team in Reading. The team undertake analysis to enable the Company to monitor performance and compliance with regulatory and business standards with respect to levels of organic pollutants.
Reporting to the Organic Chemistry Analytical Manager you will be responsible for analysing samples, from all stages of the treatment process, following defined methodologies.
You will prepare samples and analyse the extracts primarily by chromatographic techniques. An understanding of chromatography sample preparation techniques, in particular liquid-liquid and solid phase extraction, combined with knowledge of some of the following instrumental techniques: GC, HPLC, GC-MS and HPLC-MS would be advantageous but is not essential as full training will be provided. Candidates should be able to demonstrate a comprehension of quality systems.
Candidates should ideally be educated to HNC level, or equivalent, in chemistry or a closely related subject.
It is a requirement of the post that the successful candidate will be required to participate in a standby and callout rota.
Candidates must be flexible, enthusiastic, have good communication skills and a genuine desire to progress their career within the field of analytical chemistry.

You will use a range of chromatography and mass spec techniques for the detection of pesticides and other chemicals in a range of samples.
You will ideally hold BSc Chemistry (or similar) with at least 6 months experience of HPLC or GC - an interest in mass spectrometry is also desirable.
