Digital Leveller
Good afternoon. Today I’m going to present you Digital leveller - geodesic instrument which is commonly use in levelling. The first part of my presentation will be about the applications of digital leveller, second – about its structure, and the third, the last part will be about advantages and disadvantages compared with traditional levellers.
Applications
Leveller is an instrument which sets the vertical line with the laser beam. By means of it, and with the knowledge about the high above the sea level of point located relatively near the searching point, worker can easily calculate the high of any point located above or below the ground level, and the distance between it and the instrument.
The digital levellers are much more modern than typical levellers and thus they are increasingly used. The main principle which creators had in mind while creating was “ digital = precision + quick (fast) + reliable”, so it is made for automatically measurement the high differences between the searching points and registration the results of measurement. It is self-directed, so after the levelling of the instrument and pointing onto the invar1, digital leveller making measures and oblique’s alone.
Structure
The digital leveller consist of tripod stand, level2, laser, compensator, Liquid Crystal Display (LCD), bottoms which enables selecting the appropriate function, USB port, memory board, and the microprocessor inside the instrument. Necessary equipment which you need to have when use, is a special invar code levelling staff. It’s an invar3 with the barcode on, whereof the instrument reads the high of the point.
Advantages and disadvantages
Advantages
Making surveys in terrain is very quick.
Because of elimination the main source of mistakes – human eye, digital levellers are much more precise than traditional. Its accuracy amounts 0.7mm per 1 km.
Every calculates are made by the machine, so they are free of any human errors.
Calculates are made on the spot, so you can view the results of the measurements on the spot .
Thanks to main memory you can easily move the results of measurement to any programme in your computer.
The computer inside the instrument shows the worker what he should do it the time and doesn’t react when he do sth different (for instance because he forgot about sth), so there is no possibility to do anything wrong.
Disadvantages
Digital levellers, in contrast to traditional, must have the batteries, which are an extra load that you have to carry.
The Repair and Maintenance is much more expensive
