FOCUS ON BATH
Bath is a beautiful, historic city in the West Country, not far from the sea and Wales. Its Roman remains and superb Georgian architecture make it a popular tourist destination. In 1988, it was made a World Heritage City, the only city in Britain to win this award. Bath was first developed during the Roman occupation of the British Isles, almost 2000 years ago. The city still has the hot springs, around which large baths frequented by the Romans were built. After the Romans were defeated, the little town of Bath grew quietly as a religious centre and a great abbey was built in the 16th century.
Then, in the 18th century, drinking and bathing in the hot spring water became fashionable. It was believed to be good for the health, and royalty and high society came to stay in the city to drink the water and enjoy the atmosphere. It was then that the most beautiful buildings were built.
The Bath International Festival, which takes place once a year, is a very popular event. In the 20th century the Festival and the re-opening of the Theatre Royal have made the city a lively cultural centre. There are many ways to see the city: you can take a boat trip on the River Avon, hire a bicycle, or even take a birdâs-eye view from a balloon. But tourists usually decide to see the town on foot â the Mayorâs Honorary Guides give free guided tours around the city.
Bath has over a hundred restaurants, which serve many different types of food. Award-winning restaurants might be outside your budget â but there are plenty of lively, inexpensive bars, bistros and cafes. There are some really interesting places overlooking the river Avon, like Footlights Restaurant, which offers Mexican food. Teashops, meanwhile, offer delicious Bath specialities.

KILLERS AT THE WHEEL
Road accidents are one of the biggest causes of death which could be avoided. Drinking and driving has been limited and the recent introduction of roadside cameras has started to reduce the number of pedestrians killed by speeding. But there are two other major causes of unnecessary deaths and accidents... and both are connected with drivers. The first is the use of mobile phones. A survey of 700 drivers showed that motorists using mobile phones have more accidents than those without, including those using hands-free phones. The survey - published in the New England Journal of Medicine - showed that those accidents happened not because drivers' hands were occupied but because they were not careful enough. There's only one solution - the use of mobile phones must be regarded as breaking the law.
The second cause of needless accidents is driver fatigue. We all know the symptoms even if far too many of us don't want to admit them. We may even fall asleep for a minute or two without realising it. It could be that someone else travelling in the opposite direction at 70 mph in the other lane of the same highway is also struggling to stay awake. Studies by the Sleep Research Laboratory at the University of Loughborough suggest that 16 to 23 per cent of major accidents are caused by driver fatigue. Mid-afternoon is the most dangerous period and male drivers under 30 the main victims. What can be done? The Department of Transport recommends that sleepy drivers stop driving. That's common sense but the message won't get through unless it is supported by a media campaign. This is one of those few areas where politicians could make a big contribution to saving lives if they themselves could overcome their usual complaint of political fatigue.
Road accidents are caused mainly by situations that cannot be controlled by drivers.

I remember a friend of mine buying a couple of cheeses in Liverpool. I was in Liverpool at the time, and my friend said that if I didnât mind he would give me the cheeses to take back to London. He would not be coming up for a day or two himself, and he did not think the cheeses should be kept much longer.
âOh, with pleasure, dear boy,â I replied, âwith pleasure.â
I took the cheeses and went to the station. I took my ticket, and marched proudly up the platform, with my cheeses. The people moved back on both sides. The train was crowded, and I had to get into a carriage where there were already seven other people. Putting my cheeses upon the rack, I sat down with a pleasant smile, and said it was a warm day.
A few moments passed, and an old gentleman and the man next to him began sniffing, and, at the third sniff, they got up, without a word and went out. And then a lady got up, took a bag and eight parcels and went. The remaining four passengers sat on for a while, but from Crewe I had the compartment to myself, though the train was crowded. As we stopped at the different stations, the people, seeing my empty carriage, ran for it. And they ran along, carrying heavy bags, and fought round the door to get in first. And one opened the door and climbed the steps, and fell back into the arms of the man behind him; and they all came and had a sniff, and then ran away and pushed into other carriages.
From Euston, I took the cheeses down to my friendâs house. When his wife came into the room, she smelt round for a while. Then she said: âWhat is it?â I said: âItâs cheeses. Tom bought them in Liverpool, and asked me to bring them up with me.â My friend was in Liverpool longer than he expected; and, three days later, as he hadnât returned home, his wife called on me. She said:
âWhat did Tom say about those cheeses?â
I replied that he seemed really fond of them.
âYou think he would be upset,â she asked, âif I paid a man to take them away and bury them?â I answered that I thought he would never smile again.
âVery well, then,â said my friendâs wife, rising, âall I have to say is that I shall take the children and go to a hotel until those cheeses are eaten. I wonât live any longer in the same house with them.â
Tom decided to throw the cheeses away. At last he took them down to a seaside town and buried them on the beach. Visitors said they had never noticed before how strong the air was, and people with weak chests used to go there for years afterwards.

Do you know the famous twins, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen? Their life in show business began when they were babies. Their father suggested that a Hollywood television studio use them to play the part of Michelle, a little girl in a series called Full House. There are strict rules saying how many hours a child can actually work in film or television. That is why many studios use identical twins when they film a small
child in a story. The Full House series ran until the girls were eight years old. By the time they were four, a businessman who had managed pop groups such as Ace of Base and Roxette had the clever idea of licensing the twins as a "brand". He set up a company which rents out the twins' image to clothes and toy companies. So what exactly is the "Olsen image"? They have become known as the "un-Britneys". This means that they provide a safe model for girls between six and thirteen who find Britney Spears too provocative. The twins take a keen interest in all of the products sold in the "Mary-Kate and Ashley" range, and they veto things they don't like. They have sold 35 million copies of their videos, released over 17 pop albums and written many teenage novels. They now have a new sitcom called So Little Time, plus their own magazine and website. At the same time they try to live the normal lives of typical American teenagers. Each day the girls go to their small private school where they wear school uniforms and study hard. They do their homework each night stopping to watch their favourite TV programmes. At weekends they go riding or attend dance classes. In America there is a strong youngsters' movement against drinking alcohol, smoking and having sex before marriage. And the Olsens represent what is pure and good. At the same time, they are successful and attractive, and this may encourage many more girls to follow their example.

Police SWAT
Police SWAT teams deal with what other police officers don't want to. SWAT special weapons and tactics teams are specially trained to respond to some of the worst situations imaginable. Despite what you may see on shows like cops, most of a police officer's day is relatively mundane. You are rarely put in direct danger, and you always have adequate backup. Police swat teams, by contrast, are only called upon when something really urgent is going on. A police SWAT team may be assigned to rescue a hostage, chase down a bank robber, or evacuate a building in case of an urgent biological threat. To be on a Police Department SWAT team, you need iron nerves and a little bit of denial.
I got into police SWAT about six years ago. I had been a police officer for about five, and was getting a little bit sick of routine traffic stops. I had a friend who was a police sniper, and although he eventually quit because of the stress, for the first couple years he really liked it. He told me that a police SWAT team was for me. I have always been good in situations where I have to make a split-second decision. I don't like the long, slow, and drawn out negotiations involved in interceding in domestic disputes. I wanted a police SWAT situation where my objectives were clear.
When I first began my police SWAT training, however, I was almost positive that I had made a mistake. Training for police SWAT teams is rigorous. Police Department training in general is not that hard. Police jobs are actually much easier to get than they should be. You don't need to be in particularly good health, don't need to be very smart, and don't even need to get all that much training.
Police academy is an easy course, and once you're done with it, you are ready to join the force.
Police SWAT teams, by contrast, are basically an urban military force. You have to be in top physical condition, have extraordinary accuracy with a variety of weapons, and be able to subdue a suspect with physical force quickly and easily. When I began, although I was in good shape, I still wasn't up for it. Police SWAT training really wrecked me. I would come home exhausted every night for the first week. I was just glad when it was all over and I could get to work!

Bad Study Habits May Be Affecting Your Grades
If you are in high school or college, you know that you will not get the best grades if
you have bad study habits. Unless you are a naturally gifted student, it takes some effort to get the grade point average you need to continue in your academic career. Even if you are gifted, bad habits can hurt your scores.
Of course, the worst of the bad habits of studying is not studying at all. Some people plan to go through school without cracking open a book. It is rare for this to be an adequate response to academia. Most people need to study.
Some people do not go to class. This is another bad habit. The teacher or professor may give you information that if not in any of the literature. To get it, it is best to go to class. You might be able to get it second hand from someone who did go to class, but there is nothing like hearing it for yourself.
Sometimes students go to class, but they go unprepared. Some do not buy the proper literature or lab materials. They try to get by with sharing or looking on others' work. This is a bad habit, as they will not get the personal experience that they would with their own literature and materials.
You can buy the right literature and lab materials, but if you do not have the right equipment and supplies. You will suffer if you do not have the right supplies to go along with it. If you make it a habit to show up without paper, pen, pencil, or even a laptop computer if needed, you will not be able to do your work.
There are certain physical bad habits that make studying harder. Studying without eating is like trying to drive a car without fuel-it does not work very well. Studying without sleep is unproductive. Studying with a hangover is very distracting.
Many students will go to class to be entertained. This seems almost reasonable because many professors have great senses of humor. However serious learning should be taking place as well. If you find yourself not taking notes, you will know you are slipping into bad habits. If you get to class and you have not read the assignment, you will be ill prepared.
Cramming for tests is a time honored tradition. Yet, if you want to retain the material beyond the end of the semester, it is a bad habit to start. Doing daily work will help you to understand the material that is being put into your brain. It will help you assimilate it in a way that will help you to remember it in the long haul.
If you are a motivated student, your bad habits may be just as unproductive, in the short run at least. You may find yourself straying in your research. You find your subjects fascinating, but you find other information interesting as well. Before you know it, you have spent hours on the internet researching something you do not need for your school work at all. It may increase your knowledge overall, but it will not help today.
You can rid yourself of your bad habits when you are studying or preparing to study. Some people choose not to. However, you might find it beneficial.

How to Strengthen Your Relationship With Your partner
The most necessary ingredient in a recipe for successful relationship is bonding. Human bonding is of various kinds. Friends bond, children and parents bond and even at work place one needs to vibe well with others. Bonding is the central theme to a successful relationship. What is surprising in today's world is that couples take their bonding for granted. While courting since the attraction exists couples think that it will last forever. Another misconception is sex. Sexual bonding is taken as the most important bonding in a relationship. Though it is very essential to bond sexually, it is not enough to only be sexually compatible. Without a specific plan most couples bonding weakens after the initial charm is over. Some out of desperation to make their relationship work think that a child may strengthen the bonding between them. This is not true. Then what is it that makes a couple bond together?
A positive attitude towards your relationship and communication can help your relationship go on successfully. Couples need to plan and prioritize in the beginning itself. Learn to agree to disagree on certain issues. Compromise and adjustment is very essential, and instead of being individualistic approach live as a team. This helps you grow and bond well together. Because of the degeneration of American value system many couples are opting for live-ins and don't get married. Due to this there is an increase in children born out of wedlock and these children don't stay with their natural parents together. This is unhealthy for the society. No matter what happens take time out for your relationship to work.
Communication is another important part of human bonding. Talking to each other, planning for a life of togetherness after a decade or celebrating your special days like birthdays, wedding days and anniversaries keeps you close together. Enhance your intimacy, communication and conflict management skills. Keep your sex life active. Schedule a regular date night, especially if things are slowing down. You'll be surprised how the anticipation will whet your appetite--just like it did when you were dating. Introduce new forms of novelty to compensate for the inevitable diminishing partner novelty. Overcome any disagreements about initiating and active/passive roles by taking turns. The mind stimulated by sex is critical to renewing your bond.
The stress and strain of managing a career as well as home takes its toll on couples. This is the reason why many divorces take place. If these issues can be resolved amicably then no trouble can intrude in a relationship. Patience, understanding, adjustment and above all positive attitude can make couples bond as if an adhesive has stuck them together. Pre-marital counseling helps in preparing couples to face life and its difficulties together. Once acceptance and the will to make your relationship work is there such a relationship will last forever and the fruits of such a bonding and marriage are very, very sweet to taste. Let us remember that marriage is not an event but an everlasting journey.

Writing an Ebook
I've been making a fantastic living through online ventures for the past five years or so, and I'm completely convinced that with my help and guidance, others will be able to do the same thing. I'm sure that people would pay good money to learn my secrets, so that's why I'm thinking about writing an ebook to sell on my websites. The only problem is, I've never done this sort of thing before, and don't really know where to start.
From talking to other online entrepreneurs, there are several things that I need to take into consideration before writing an ebook. For example, it's important that I guard my ebook from theft or illegal reproduction. I can do this by purchasing a protection program, issuing passwords to unlock the book only after payment is received, or by using Digital Rights Management. These steps will ensure that the ebook can't be copied or traded very easily.
I also learned that there's a definite formula to writing an ebook, and that once I get the basic feel for how to do it, the entire creation process will become a lot easier. Savvy marketers have discovered that there's an ideal length for ebooks, that the margins should be a certain width, and that there should be plenty of white space on each page so the reader doesn't get intimidated at the prospect of taking in too much information. There are even pricing guidelines out there to help me decide how much to sell my finished product for! I never could have figured these things out for myself, so I feel like I'm making good progress already.
At this point, I think it would probably be best for me to purchase some special software that will allow me to take a step-by-step approach to writing an ebook. I've seen several of these types of programs advertised online, and have even checked out some of their features. It seems that the prices are pretty good for what the software delivers, so I should probably place my order soon. After all, the sooner I finish my book, the sooner I can start making money from it!
I'm excited about the prospect of writing an ebook, but I definitely need more information before I can begin in earnest. I'm going to devote the next couple of days to research, and will hopefully be in a better position to evaluate where I stand after that.

Racial Profiling
So many things separate our species. You've surely noticed this. There are politics, opinions and religions. But, probably one of the most common aspects of our species is race. We all notice this. It's something that's in our face at all times. Even though we're made the same way, with two arms, two legs, a head and flesh and bone, we still judge, fear and scrutinize one another. It's innate I suppose. There's always some small part of us that feels different. Needless to say, this issue has been quite prevalent in our society and current events. Almost every day you can watch some racial issue on the news. And what about racial profiling? Is this okay or does it make things worse?
Take a look at our nation's crime. If you were to examine the prisons alone, you'd assume that most is committed by black men. However, much has to do with nurture/environment. This is a factor commonly overlooked by the layman. The truth is that much relies on how we're raised. Economic and social issues play a part in criminal behavior; as do parents. Then there is the whole concept of racial profiling with criminal activities. Can we really conclude what race of individual did what, based on the crime itself? Well, this can be a bit tricky, and needless to say it comes across as stereotypical. However, on the contrary, it seems to be pretty effective. Take serial killers for example. Now, remember this is based on statistical evidence accumulated over many years. In general authorities, and even the public, assume a serial killer is a white male. He's probably in his late 20s to mid 40s. Again, this is fairly generalized, but I'll bet you get the picture.
Do we have a problem with racial profiling? Hmm, this is actually a tough question to answer. In all truth, some folks will and others won't. Even though racial profiling has proved helpful in some cases, it can also be burdensome. No one wants to be snagged off the streets for doing absolutely nothing, simply because they fit a statistical profile and were in the wrong area at the wrong time. So, in short, racial profiling is an iffy concept. Any time you deal with race, there is plenty of tip-toeing involved.

Sports Motivation for Children
With child obesity on the rise it is important for parents to instil sports motivation in their children early. Here are some ways that you can help your child love sports from the age of six months and on into adulthood.
Baby Sports
Even at the age of six months, you can give your child sports motivation and the desire to play sport later in life. One good activity to start with is playing with balls. The ball should be very soft, but try to avoid foam balls, babies have a habit of chewing off small chunks of the foam and this could be a choking hazard. Start by rolling the ball to your baby and encourage him or her to roll it back to you. After baby has this mastered you can try to teach him or her to throw the ball to you.
As your baby becomes a toddler you can teach him or her to catch the ball. Show your child how to place their arms out in front of them, hands open and flat, then gently toss the ball to them. It will take a lot of your patience to teach this skill, but donât worry, toddler s usually only get discouraged if their parents do. Keep the game fun and full of praise like, âOh! You almost caught it!â or, âTry again!â
Praise
Many parents worry that if they lavish too much praise on their child then the kid will get a false sense of accomplishment. In some ways this might be true, but praise is the biggest key to giving your child sports motivation. If a child knows that they will get praise from doing well at a sport then they will love to do it, especially at a young age.
Make your praise appropriate to the situation for the best sports motivation. If your child struck out at the plate then donât tell them they did a good job, they wonât believe you because they know they didnât. Your praise will be worthless if they donât believe you. Instead say, âThatâs okay, Jenny! You tried your best and youâll do better next time.â This statement tells the child that it is okay to fail as long as they tried their best and gives them hope for the next time. This encouragement keeps children from giving up and drives them to try harder and play better. The perfect sports motivation!

Stay At Home Mom
Being a stay at home Mom is a luxury that few women experience these days. Due to the rising costs of everything, especially diapers, it is rare to find stay at home Moms these days. However they do exist because I was one of them! Staying home has its disadvantages and advantages. However the real winners are your children and you will gain the rewards of your hard labor as they grow and look after you.
Being a stay at home Mom is the toughest job you will ever love. Most women will agree that it is harder than most outside jobs, because you are literally at it from the time you get up to the time you go to bed, and even beyond that. If your children are preschool age your job of being a mother is at its toughest as you are literally on the job around the clock. The only time you really get rest is when they are sleeping, playing or perhaps watching TV and playing video games.
It is wonderful to have a little relaxation but very important not to let your children spend too many hours playing video games and watching TV. All children need some exercise during the day, to maintain good health. If necessary take some time out of your busy schedule to go with them outside and do some activities with them. Small children can get quite a bit of exercise at the local park. This also gives you a break from the house as well.
When you are at home, surrounded by kids all day and everyday, it is most important that you look after yourself as well. You should maintain your physical health, as being a homemaker is very strenuous and takes quite a bit out of you. Try to eat a healthy nutritious diet. Remember if you have good eating habits your kids will pick up those same habits from you.
You should also keep up your mental abilities. It is very easy to let yourself go, when you are with your children day in and day out. Try to grab some time to read or if you have no time you can get an Ipod and listen to books of your choice as you do your errands. This will keep your mind active and will allow you to think of things other than just the kids and home. If you keep mentally alert you will be able to work more efficiently and be more interesting to talk to.
There are many more advantages than disadvantages to staying home with your kids. Your kids will feel more secure and know there is always somebody there for them. It is easier to stay close to your kids and when they grow up they will be more inclined to look after you in your time of need. So do not let anybody tell you that staying home with your kids is "just being a housewife" because you can prove them wrong and have great kids to show for it.

Lonely people
There are billions of people that live all across the globe. Different languages are spoken, various cultures practice lifestyles drastically different and ways of life vary greatly. It would seem like the vast differences in cultures and people doesnât allow for us to have things in common with complete strangers. The facts are however, that we have more in common with different cultures that what we think. Everyone smiles, they laugh, they cry - you canât hide the fact that everyone has emotions. Some cultures may be trained to not show emotions but that doesnât mean that they donât feel them.
Despite the fact that there are billions of people in this world, there are tons of lonely people living all over the planet. People can be in a crowd of people and still be lonely. There are people that you see every single day that consider themselves to be in the category of âlonely peopleâ. Forced smiles and fake laughs may cover up the fact that someone may be struggling or hurting. Most people hate to admit that something is wrong. They want to look poised and capable. The harsh facts are that lonely people are everywhere. One of the best places to find lonely people is in a nursing home. Walk into a one sometime and look at the weary and aged faces that might be staring at you. Some of them were put there by families and are ignored. Others have no families at all and spend their time sitting in a chair staring out the window. They arenât truly alive in their hearts, they simply exist because they are supposed to. It is absolutely heartbreaking knowing how many lonely people you can find in a nursing home. Despite the games and activities that the homes might encourage or organize, it canât take away loneliness.
If you ask some of the individuals who would describe themselves as falling into the lonely people category, they give varying reasons. Some of them have no family members and go home to an empty house every night, others are going through a divorce or separation. Other lonely people claim that they have no friends and spend all of their free time completely alone. There isnât one specific reason for loneliness. It happens to everyone. Even individuals who seem to have lots of friends and relatives and appear incredibly happy may be very lonely.
You can help some of the lonely people in the world feel a bit less lonely. Visit some residents at a nursing home or volunteer. Some of the residents may be overjoyed at visits from a complete stranger just to have someone to talk to. Reach out to make a new friend if you think a co-worker or classmate might be lonely. You never know how much of a difference you may end up making in someoneâs world.
