Researchers at the University of California tested volunteers to see if they could track scents by smell alone. The volunteers were blindfolded and wore gloves and earplugs to błock out their other senses. Although a lot slower than sniffer dogs, two thirds of the group were able to track the scent.


Some companies are developing “scent brands” so that whenever a consumer smells a particular scent, the company brand will come to mind.

Estate agents often use the smell of freshly baked bread or coffee to make a house seem morę attractive and welcoming.

The aroma of leather and cedar wood can often persuade customers to buy morę expensive furniture.

Certain floral and citrus scents are used in Stores to encourage customers to spend morę time there—and hopefully spend morę money, too.
