I was having a elear out today and came across a book with this illustration of a hovercraft ice breaker. Great theory but does anyone know if it worked in practice and was any hovercraft ever employed as such.

2tL Doug Coulson Hovercraft are used as ice breakers (Canada and Sweden Ul spring to mind first off). To my knowledge that idea in the illustration has not been used. I have that book. It always fascinated me, the thought of having one ofthose strappedto the bow ofyourship!
