SOLAS Chapter II-2 Rcgulation 28 1. 10. requircs all escape route signs u» be photolunimcsccni materia! or marked by light or both. IMO publication IMO-981E indicatcs that exit signs should comprise ofa 'runnmg man' pietogram. an arrow and the word ,EXIT.
Installation:
Primary escape routcs should be marked with signs comprising the 'runnmg mail' pietogram. a direclion arrow and the word ’KXIT'. Secondary escape routcs should employ similar signs but with the wording 'EXIT for emergcncy use only'. Signs should be positioned approximutely 1700 mm from deck !cvcl for norma! direction marking and not morę than 300mm front deck leve! for LLL Systems. Where possible signs at doors or hatches should be positioned abovc the door su tliat the sign is still visible w hen the door is open. Direction signs over doors should be limited to either a sign containing a vertical arrow. indicating the escape route continues through the door, or to the 'running man' pietogram plus the word 1X11' indicating that the door is the finał cxil Where the door hinges on the right a sign with the man running to the left should be used. convcrseIy with a door hinged on the left the running man should face to the right.
