Wilson’s test A manipulative, provocative test to elicit the pain of osteochondritis dissecans of the knee by impinging the anterior cruciate ligament against the osteochondritis dissecans lesion using passive internal rotation of the tibia. windlass effect The coupled, involuntary heel inversion and accentuation of the longitudinal arch that normally occur when a person rises up on the toes. windswept deformity The situation in which a patient has a varus deformity in one knee and a valgus deformity in the other.
winging of the scapula The tendency of the medial border of the scapula to stand out from the underlying chest wali, most commonly due to weakness of the serratus anterior muscle.
Wrighfs maneuver A provocative test for thoracic outlet syn-drome in which the examiner attempts to eliminate the patients radial pulse by abducting the shoulder to 90" and cxternally rotating the arm.
Yeomans test A provocative test in which rcsisted extension of the hip is used to elicit the pain of gluteus maximus tendinitis.
Yergason’s test A provocative test for biceps tendon pain in which the patient is asked to simultaneously flex the elbow and supinate the forearm against resistance.
