Thylakoid
The system consists of three protein complexes: PSU, the cytochrome b6f comp!ex.and PSI. which are elcctrically "connectcd" by the diffusion of the electron carriers plastoąuinol (O) and plastocyanin (PC). Light-driven transport of electrons (black arrows) from H20 to NADP* forming NADPH motivates the transport of protons (red arrows) into the thylakoid space (Fd is fcrredoxin). Additional protons are Split off from water by the oxygen-evolving complex (OEC), yiclding 02.The rcsulting proton gradient powers the synthesis of ATP by the CF,CF0 proton-translocating ATP synthase [CFt and CF0 are chloroplast (C) analogs of mitochondrial Ft and F0].The membranę also contains light-harvesting complexes whose component chlorophylls and other chromophorcs transfer their cxcitations to I>SI and PSII.
