KTO JEST TURYSTĄ W PRZESTRZENI MIASTA?

-    the tourists (among the others) fali into the “non-inhabitant” category;

-    a non-tourist and a non-inhabitant is morę often encountered in a big city than a precisely defined (or self-defining) tourist or inhabitant;

-    the participants of the tourism in a city are mostly tourists, while the participants of the urban tourism can be tourists as well as inhabitants;

-    an attempt to estimate who is a tourist in a big city is move difficult than to estimate who is not.

The conseąuences of the common consent for the adulteration of the reality for the benefit of the mass availability of a certain place and for the benefit of :he commercialization of places in the name of a brand, a logo, an image, and ;idvertisement (periodical processes of the re-imaging and the re-labelling) are among other things: the cities of touristic illusion (Las Vegas, the Disney World on Florida, the Disneyland in California); the waxworks museums (turning Tagments of the world into museum pieces); trials of the reconstruction of the urban tissue with the principle of the continuum of truth and false (compare Eco, 1996; McCabe, Stokoe, 2004). The reality which has been concocted with stereotypes is less authentic but still easier to consume on the physical and the symbolical level... However, the most essential relation appears to be: the context of the origin to the context of the functioning. Even if the appearance of the contexts’ compatibility has not been retained, a place itself can play a role of a touristically generated artifact perfectly well.

An inhabitant becomes a tourist in his own city when he apprehends the cognitive distance. A tourist becomes an inhabitant when he apprehends the city and begins to identify himself with it.
