Materials: 1.40 m /19/i6 yds fine pure linen, 180 cm / 71” wide, 22 fabric threads to 10 cm / 4" (eg Zweigart ref 3225 "Kingston” - the original fabric is even fineri); approx 30 skns Anchor or DMC coton a broder No 35; stranded cotton for padding.
To make: Cut linen on straight grain 140 x 170 cm / 55 x 67”, fold into a quarter, press folds lightly as guide. Copy reversed tracings A (= center motif, half) and B/C (= outer border with scallops, 1 quarter between the double arrows) from the worksheet onto tissue paper with an iron-on transfer pencil, draw broken lines with ordinary pencil. Piece floral borders B and C together foli broken linę, see diagram. Scalloped edge: On long side add the section from a to b once; turn the tissue paper over, on short side add the section from a to b and from a to c with pencil, retrace lines on right side with transfer pencil. Complete 2nd quarterfrom center = double arrow, see diagram. Iron on tracings A and B/C each time from fabric fold. Cut off blossoms shaded gray (see diagram), complete 2nd half from center, making surę transfer lines match up accurately.
Eyelet embroidery: Retrace
outlines of eyelets and leaves with smali running stitches, pierce smaller holes with a stiletto, snip center of leaves and larger holes crosswise in both directions. Turn fabric back up to the running stitch using the point of the needie, overcast closely around folded edge, iii a. Embroider stems, tendrils, basket contour and in parts pointed leaves in trailing stitch (satin couching), iii b. Fili dots, blossoms, pointed leaves and bow ribbon partly with satin stitch, partly with seed stitch (iii c), see close-up detail, page 4/5. Retrace double lines of scallops with smali running stitches, buttonhole stitch closely over outlines, ill d, inserting and bringing out needie just outside the tracing. Carefully press completed embroidery face down on a well-padded surface. Neatly trim away surplus fabric close to the buttonholed edge.
