Oneshot lace Hat

HANA JASON eats. sleeps. and breathes knitting in New England.

Finished Slze 18" circumference at brim, to fit a womans medium. Hat is very stretchy.

Yarn Gedifra Amara (80% cotton, 20% polyamide; 110 yd (100 m]/50 g): *3719 khaki, 1 bali. Yarn distributed by West-minster Fibers.

Needles Sizes 8 (5 mm) and 4 (3.75 mm): 16" circulars (cir). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge. Notions Tapestry needle.

Gauge 20 sts = 4" and 14 rows = 2" in pattern st; each wedge measures 7" long and 2" wide at widest point (brim).

NOTES

♦ You can make a larger, deeper hat by working an additional short-row wedge. Each wedge added or removed changes the brim circumference by 2".

HAT

With larger cir needle and the invisible-provisional method (see Glossary), CO 36 sts. Short-row wedge:

Row 1: (RS) SI 1, *yo, k2tog; rep from * to last st, turn, leaving last st unworked. Rows 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12: (WS) Knit to end.

Row 3: SI 1, kl, *yo, k2tog; rep from * to last 4 sts, turn.

Row 5: SI 1, *yo, k2tog; rep from * to last 7 sts, turn.

Row 7: SI 1, kl, *yo, k2tog; rep from * to last 10 sts, turn.

Row 9: SI 1, *yo, k2tog; rep from * to last 13 sts, turn.

Row 11: SI 1, kl, *yo, k2tog; rep from * to last 16 sts, turn.

Row 13: Knit across all sts.

Row 14: (WS) SI 1, knit to end.

Rep Rows 1-14 eight morę times—9 wedges total.

FINISHING

Cut yarn, leaving a 30" taił. With tapestry needle, graft live sts to sts of provisional CO with Kitchener st (see Glossary). Band: With smaller needle, pick up and knit 1 st in each slipped st along brim edge for a total of 112 sts. Join in the rnd. Work in kltbl, pl rib for 3 rnds. BO all sts in rib. Sew hole at crown of hat closed. Weave in ends. Błock, opening up lace. Stretch firmly for a slouchy cap or only gently for a tight hat as shown. □
