With needle #1 Ch 5 Do not tie a knot. Needle # 2 R 5 - 5 - 5 - 5 Cl. Do not tie a knot.

Needle #1 Ch 5.Take stitches off the needle. Remove the paper clip,there is a loop.

With needle #1 run the needle through the loop.

The next 3 rings will be split ring. The photo shows half of the double stitches are madę with the thread on the left and half of the stitches are madę with the thread on the right. You then have to thread the needle and take the stitches off the needle, and come up through the loop to make a ring. A split ring has been madę.
