W;ith right side facing. spread a Snowflake over a blocking pattern and choose the mark on the long linę that best fits the length of the spokes. Pin the tip of each spoke to the same mark throughout. then pin all of the components within the spoke. Use the short lines if needed to align components beaveen the spokes. Use the marks on the short lines in the same manner.
Allow to dry completely.
Snowflakes require a stiffening process to achieve the
desired effect. Read the following instructions before
beginning.
1. Wash Snowflakes using a mild detergent and warm water. Rinse thoroughly. Roli piece in a clean terry towel and gently press out the excess moisture. Lay piece fiat and allow to dry completely.
2. Pour fabric stiffener in a resealable plastic bag.
Do not dilute stiffener. Notę: This method is permanent and will not wash out.
3. Immerse dry Snowflake in fabric stiffener, remove air. and seal the bag. Work stiffener thoroughly into piece. Let soak for several hours or overnight.
4. FOR SNOWFLAKES 1-87 ONLY
With tracing paper and a waterproof marking pen. tracę pattern needed. pages 56-58. as many times as necessary. Place pattern(s) on ironing board or blocking board and cover with plastic wrap.
FOR SNOWFLAKES 88-95, 98 & 99 ONLY
With tracing paper and a waterproof marking pen. tracę specified blocking pattern 3 times. Cut six 4" x 8" pieces of cardboard and tape long edges together to form 2 triangles. Fold 2 blocking patterns along fold lines and tape one to each cardboard triangle. Place remaining unfolded pattern on blocking board or ironing board. Cover all with plastic wrap.
5. Remove Snowflakes from stiffener and squeeze gently to remove as much excess stiffener as possible. Biot with a paper towel several times to remove excess from holes.

After each component of the Snowflake is dry. glue fold of folded pieces to center point (indicated by dot) of the fiat piece (Fig. 11). Allow to dry.

1. If using the same stiffener for both white and colored items. soak the white items first. in case thread dye should bleed into the stiffener.
2. A good blocking board can make pinning easier. Ceiling board (tile) is inexpensive. works very well. and is available at home improvement. lumber, and hardware Stores.
3. Stainless Steel pins with balls on the ends will be easier to use and will help prevent sore fingertips. Fabric stiffener will permanently damage pins. You may want to set these pins aside for use in futurę starching projects.
4. Use three pins for each Picot.
5. Fabric stiffener can be returned to the bottle and re-used if it has not been contaminatcd with particles or dye. Clip one corner of the bag. then squeeze the bag. forcing the stiffener to flow into the bottle.
6. Use a hard bristle toothbrush to remove excess dried fabric stiffener from finished Snowflakes.
7. After stiffener has dried completely. an acrylic spray can be used to protect the piece from heat and humidity.
