Buckyball

One molecule of buckminsterfullerene is called a “buckyball, ”

IN 1985, SCIENT1STS discovered a third form ofcarbon. In this new form, the atoms are joined in rings, and the rings form various curved molccules. The most co mm on type of molecule has 60 carbon atoms, and, because this looks like the structures devised by the American engineer Buckminster Fuller, this form is called buckminsterfullerene. It has many useful properties - for example, it is magnetic and almost frictionless.
