Text for Border #104. The repeated group of stitches in brackets is: ‘[7 ir in next st, skip 3 sts, sc in next st, skip 2 sts, 5 dc in next st, skip 2 sts, sc in nextst, skip 3 sts]':
Chart for Border #104. A careful look at the shaded stitches in the chart tor the same border indicates that the repeated stitches are ‘skip 3 sts, 7 tr in next st, skip 3 sts, sc in next st, skip 2 sts, 5 dc in next st, skip 2 sts, sc in next st”. Both are correct; they are just different uays of expressing the same intbrmation.
Using the chart is perhaps the easiest way to visualize this technigue. If the frst round includes skipped stitches, skip one morę or less along each edge as needed to end up with the correct number. If several stitches’ worth of fudging is necessary, space the adjustments over the entire edge. If the first round ofthe pattern requires worki ng into every stitch of the base round, however, youll probably be better off adjusting the stitch count on the base round.
Repeating sections of stitches. Each pattern instruction includes a repeated group of stitches and/or chains that is repeated across the edge as manytimes as needed. In the text, the repeated units are indicated by the instructions in [brackets]. In the charts, the repeated unit is shaded. If you are comparing the repeated stitches in the text to the shaded section inthe chart, you mayfind that they do not correspond exactly, just be consistent and follow eitherthe text or the chart throughout a project.
