Surface Chain: Holding yam on wrong side of fabric, insert hook from front to back into next st and puli up a loop through fabric and through loop on hook.

Base md, each side: Multiple of 7 + comer sts. Begininany stiteh.

Rnds 1—4: Ch 1, sc in each sc around, płacing 3 sc in each comer st. Fasten off atthe end of Rnd 4.

Rnd 5: Join yam in 3rd stto leftof comer st, ch 1, *sc in same st sc in next 3 sc, [(Surface Chain on next rnd below) three times, (Surface Chain on next st to the left) four times, (Surface Chain on next st above) three times, sc into same st, sc in next 3 sc] to 2 sts before comer st, (Surface Chain on next rnd below) three times, rotate piece 90 degrees clockwise, (Surface Chain on next st above) three times; rep from * around, join with slip stto first sc. Fasten off.
