Most trains carry iwo classes: first dass for moce eomfortable iravd and second for economy. The swiftest conncctions are by fasi inter-city trains or by cx press trains.

Rostagc stamps are sold at post offices. International phone calls can be madę frocn post offices (operator calls, direct dial) or front hotd/privatc home phones (direct dial). Tokens for telephone booths can be bought at post offices and hotels. Post offices in towns are open in the hours 8-20, (8 A-M.-S P.M.) but are closed on Saturdays and Sundays. In large cities. one post office remains open 24 hours a day.
Using tokens can prove to be a problem with long distance calls. Magneóc cards are much casier to use. Telephones accepling magnetie cards have been instalłed in the majority of Warsaw hotels. They can ałso be found at Okęcie Airport. at the railway slalions and main post offices. Soon they will be also available on the streets of major cities. There are two kinds of cards. One has a capacity of 50 units. The other cootains 100 units.

The Polish monetary unit is 1 zloty (abbr. zł) which consists of 100 groszy (abbr. gr.). Thrcc bank notes are in circulation, with values 10, 20, and 50 zł. A large rangę of coins cxisls. Thcsc are the following: 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, and 50 gr as well as 1,2, and 5 zł. Foreign currency is best exchangcd in banks or burcaux dc change ( Polish name 'kantor'). The currcnt cxchangc ratę is displayed there. Foreign visitors are adviscd to avoid unofficial currency trades. Credit cards are not vcry common in Poland and can be uscd only in some hotels, shops and restauronts. Travcler's chccks are acccptcd in banks. Banks usually open at 8 AM and elose at 1 PM cxccpt Saturdays and Sundays.
Shops are gencrally open from 11 AM to 7 PM. Department Stores open earlier and elose latcr (without a lunch break). 24-hour shops are rarc. Products of Polish folk arts and crafts are available in CEPELIA shops; DESA offers finc art, painling, sculpture; PEWEX Stores have a wide selcction of imported goods of all kinds.
