Doar Minky. dear Ja no.
Thank you for your letler of 12 November and for informing us about your upcomirtg report on the conditions of migrant workers at Olympic and other sites in Sochi. We studied carefully the cases you raised and also shared your letter with the Sochi 2014 Organrsing Committee lo obtain from them further details and give them the opporlunity to address the issues with the relevant authorities. Whilst Olympstroy has piovidcd Sochi 2014 wrth foedback which I will sharo with you today, wc have roquestod further details and the procoss of gathering all lho information is still ongoing.
Let me share with you the information Olympstroy has come back with and which you may have already received directly from them :
Accordmg to Olympstroy. they have a dedicated department in charge of monitoring the situation on the various construction sitos for the Sochi 2014 Olympic Gamcs. This department carried out 1300 inspections in 2011 and in 2012. It seems that the most common violations detected referred to safety issues. including mcomplete provisk>n of protective clothing. shoes and personal protection eąuipment. failure to use personal protective equipment. inadequate fencing around dangerous areas, violations of the operaling rules for LPG equipment by emptoyees. and violalions of electrical safety requirements. In order to avoid such violations in the futurę. Olympstroy has addressed these issues with the State Labor Inspectorate for the Krasnodar Region and the Federal Service for labor and Employment so they can lakę the necessary measures In addition, Ołympstroy has conducted joint inspections with theses two bodies.
Olympstroy has also indicated that is has a reporting system in place through which workers can file complaints. In practical terms, phone numbers of Olympstroy. the Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation and the generał contractors are dispłayed on largo billboards and in several languages on all sites so that workers know how to get in łouch wrth these bodies. Olympstroy reports that they only received frve mdwidual complaints from workers in the period of 2011 and 2012. These complaints all referred to the payment of salarios. Olympstroy insists that the cases werc im/estigatcd and that the employers corrected the issues.
Whilst we are still seeking morę information on the different cases outlined in your letter. we hope you find this information useful. We are aware of your deadlme for your report and will send you morę details as soon as we should receive them.
